How many work for small towns and how long did you have a FTO

Posted about 6 years ago I went to work for a very small town only had 3 patrol, and 2 sgts. Now I was only there for a year due to politics. Also this was my first job out of the academy. They had me ride with a FTO for 5 days and 5 nights then I was sent off on my own. With such a small force you work a 12hr shift by yourself. Now the day shift will have the Chief and possible one other officer if emergency arises. My question is this? Is this normal? |

| Posted about 6 years ago i work for a very small town aswell, my Fto program is a mandatory 400 hours . it can also be based on the frequency of action in your town. scenarios will do wonders if there is little action. i feel the longer the f/ training the better. Good luck and be safe! |

| Posted almost 6 years ago We have a small department also and have a 20 week FTO program for recruits and then a minimum 6 week FTO program for transfers or prior experience officers. We have 4 phases of FTO so technically, they are on that status for their probationary period which is 6 months or 1 year. |
