Anybody in NW Louisiana or NE Texas out there that has a successful highway interdiction program? I've been trying for the better part of two years to get one going at my agency, but there's just no interest from the officers.

Though I've heard rumors to the contrary, the Villa Rica Police Department, Georgia, in the past, has been extremely sucessful in highway interdiction. They've had a very good training program where they will send a team of the interdiction officers to your area for training purposes at a very minimal cost which, if my old memory serves me correctly, was for the amount of motels only.

Their training included the techiques used to spot potential drug runners, safety, concealed compartments, and a myriad of other topics.

Below is the weblink to their department where you may try to give them a call to see if they still offer their services.

Best wishes.

My dept does not have a highway interdiction program per say, but we do alot of seizures....majority of my dept has had some sort of formal training in drug interdiction.

We are a small dept and don't have a very large budget....majority of our equipment is from seizures.

You should check into some of the agencies in East Texas along Hwy 59....such as: Nacogdoches, Lufkin, Angelina County.....they did have some interdiction traffic units that were VERY busy! There is a lot dope traveling Hwy 59 as I'm sure there is on all of the major roadways. I know Round Rock/Williamson County stay very busy on I-35!!

I've been off site for about 10 months, but am back and hope to have my interdiction team in place on US 79 and I-20 in the next few months.  We've finally got some stability with a new chief in office.

We are a 4 man full time interdiction unit. We work I-75 at home, but are on the road an average of 1 week a month. We travel to other agencies training newly established units. We have worked on several interstates in different agencies and states. We are hoping with the new sheriff in January, our numbers will be increased. We do multi-agency operations as well. We love to network, so feel free to contact us at any time. Being in Texas, try to make contact with Shawn Padarzi iin Smith County. He is about as good as it gets. Good luck. If I can help with anything, don't hesitate to PM me. SASA!

I hope to have some success and get to where we can be a full time unit, but right now it's probably gonna be on slow days (we dont' have a lot of calls for service) or on OT.  I'm actually in La at the Tx line and have known Shawn about 2-3 years.  I rode with him when he was in Lauderdale County, when I was at RCTA for a week.

Lauderdale County, MS has a pretty darn good program as well.   I used to work the next county up in Newton and pretty much stayed off the road when they were on becuase I never got any traffic.

Check out http://www.rcta.org

The Regional Counter Drug Training Academy located at Naval Air Station in Meridian Mississippi has a great class called T-CAP/Road Patrol which is geared toward Interstate Interdiction.
