Posted almost 7 years ago I was a Deputy Sheriff. I arrested an individual, then when he got out of jail he accused me of taking money. I was fired from my job as a Deputy Sheriff and went to court for 9months straight fighting the case. I was told by the judge that it will be dismissed from my record. How do i know if i still have my license to be a peace officer.. Will it be taken off my record and can i still be a cop? Even if it says dismissed? |

Posted almost 7 years ago Will it be dismissed from my record? Depends on the state you're in, but I would recommend getting an attorney to do that....... Will it and can i still be a cop? Depends on the agencies you apply with.......ask the agencies prior to applying what their pre-disqualifiers are......Goodluck...

Posted almost 7 years ago If the charges were dropped, I don't see why you can't still be a cop. Contact your states police licensing board. They will be able to tell you if your certification has been revoked.

Posted almost 6 years ago Wayners, I see you're in Texas so you fall under TCLEOSE. In your place, I'd get an attorney and make sure the record has been expunged. Once that is in place TCLEOSE has nothing to take your licnese for. As far as your record with the SO, I think it will be important to have the attorny make sure that record is cleaned up too. Almost every agency now-days will not tell anyone anything more than the dates of your employment and whether or not you are elegable for re-hire. If your atorney does his job well, you will have no worries

Posted almost 6 years ago I dont know the answers to your question wayners but I do have some questions. Why did your agency "fire" you because some toad you locked up accused you of taking his money? Did they investigate the matter?

Posted almost 6 years ago You don't lose your license because you were fired. TCLEOSE would have received an F5 from your previous agency, which is the termination paperwork. TCLEOSE gives you two years to procure other employment before your license expires. You may want to try and get on somewhere as a reserve, or find an agency that will carry your commission while you look for full time work. That will keep your license up. You may want to consider joining TMPA. They provide unmatched legal service for $23 a month. Check 'em out!
