You know, I don't know if you have the resources, and I understand that this is a public forum, but it would probably be beneficial to have a fax # so credentials may be checked. Often what happens in "some other" cop forums, you have people who ARE NOT sworn officers, but who CLAIM TO BE. You could havce a little tag-line under our avatar stating "confirmed" or "unconfirmed". A departmental contact # could be provided, as it is public information whether an officer is employed with the department or not (trust me, I'm the PIO).

No officer should have a problem sending off a fax of their departmental ID. It is required for many affiliations such as National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA), California Gang Investigators Association (CGIA), etc. If it is claimed to be against departmental rules, they'd have to settle for "unconfirmed", and/or provide a contact #.

It's only a matter of time before you run into this problem with no checks or balances.

I wish there was a way to make some of the discussion forums LEO only. Some topics discussed and some opinions presented might not be appropriate or beneficial for the general public to read. I guess that goes along with LT. Dan's message above. If some type of password protected area could be generated, some problems (or potential problems) could be avoided.

I think both of the above suggestions are great ideas.....I've wondered about both of them.....

some other things to consider:

1. Does PoliceLink delete some of the topics? Since I've been on here it seems like the "pages" are going higher and higher.......to me it takes away from commenting on important topics when there's (one day) 50 pages of topics to choose from.
2. Is there a way to specifically reply to ones response to a topic? For example - there is a few topics that have 3 pages of comments.......when reading the 1st page I want to reply to that specific person and it gets lost in the mix due to so many people commenting after it........It would show a response button under Ashley's name..... now I can not only comment to the topic, but specifically to what she said......

Other than that, I really like this site........it has brought some humor in knowing I'm not alone in the stuff we put up with, brought some good officer safety tips and most of all brought potential opportunities to helping other civilians that are not even in my jurisdication........that means a lot to some cops.....be safe...

Ashley I agree with you on the 'privacy' option for LEO specific. However on the other hand I am concerned. I work the other side of the fence so to speak in corrections. It would be nice to see this field included. I know that this is a police site and understand this. However some areas utilize their LEOs as correctional officers as well.

I also think that tat2 has the right thing. It makes it difficult to know what is being said about your post if you have to search through pages and pages of other responses to find it.

The information provided has been very informative and helpful.

I like to see when all the disciplines can be involved, because each brings its own perspective to the field of LE. Some police websites have special areas for posts pertaining to corrections, K-9 work, dispatchers, and other special fields. That's a good way to do IMO because it is easier to connect with a particular group that way.

Is there any way to make it so we could post pictures in the threads and hyperlink?

Is there away that we can see all the post we have made, so that we don’t have to fish for them latter? Right now I can only see two and it’s the most recent; but we should also be able to delete the ones that are dead after so many days on our profile page...

Checking Credentials - The checking of the credentials of joining members is a mammoth task and could never be 100% accurate. In my opinion the main task in so far as the credibiity of the Website is concerned to have systems in place that can identify Spammers and lock them out before they can inflict any damage to the Website.

Officer Only Forums - I can't see the point of them. The Website Owner/Admin can never guarantee the security of restricted forums and in any case I would never post anything on a public or restricted forum that involved operational matters - period. Anyhow, who wants to get involved in serious 'Job Talk'?

I'm happy the way the Forums are progressing and we appear to have a collection of mature members and I'm sure that anyone falsely claiming to be a police officer wouldl soon be identified.

However, as the membership continues to grow there will be a need to appoint Moderators.

Facilities that I miss in comparison to other Forums are the provision hyperlinks, images and smilies.

I want to thank the editor for posting "Evaluating the Truthfulness of a Sexual Assault" and "Importance of Privacy during an Interview". I'm struggling with this problem due to reporting an assault and this came at the perfect time. This week I should receive calls regarding the possibility of Whistle Blower Reprisal.

Tat2: When your getting 50 pages to a discussion you may need to login first before going into the discussion. If you click on a persons name you get their personal profile and can send private messages.

I would like to see an area for LEO's only as well as maybe reducing or archiving some of the older threads. Maybe a link to show what topics someone has commented on. This is a great site though, thanks for making this work!

Good evening all

I do like that I can take part in different discussions and get help and opinions. If this site goes to LEO only on Certain topics, I guess that would be OK, being a very close friend with a C/O is probably not a good enough credential to get around. (in restricted areas I meant)

Just 2 cents to share

To me it's kind of a bummer when threads suddenly disappear. It's understandable if it's a complete waste, but when there's a good discussion going on between people and then suddenly it's gone it sucks. Lots of time and thinking goes into some of these posts, and it's not appreciated to come back only to find that it's gone. And I'm sure it's even more frustrating if you're the original poster only to find that your topic that you started to get some advice, suggestions, etc just got shafted.

Also, after seeing some of the threads and the degeneration of them...due to some of the active participants...there should be a "block" button so that communication can no longer be received by individuals. I have no problem skipping over what someone writes in a thread, but I'd prefer to not have my inbox clogged up with their intolerable crap. Don't know if it's an option, but sure would be nice.

I would like to see just one place that was pro police only ..you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a news reporter that is slamming the police..enough, just one place that we can turn that only gives the bright side of law enforcement, not just odm,but the cops that are giving their all every day of the week. how about giving some type of atta boy to the ones comming out of the academys, let them know we are with them. make this a place that they can turn to when the public is kicking the crap out of them.what is this place for ? we get enough of the bad cop press .

With what little bit of experience I have in the construction of websites, I can safely say this much: Of all the sites I have visited over the years, this site is definately unique. I think it's based on CSS and operates mostly on javascript according to my interpretation of the source code. To answer GTS's question about posting pics and/or url's, I have been a member on many a forum, and there are ways to include applets that allow you to post pictures and url's in the forum text. One is used in your profile to allow you to upload pictures. If the big cheeses of this site opt not to include that function, then it's easy enough to learn the code (which is what GTS, myself, and others have done previously in some of the threads). The same applies to responding directly to someone else's posting in the middle of a thread. Usually exists as "quote" in each person's response. Here, I just cut and paste their text and preface it with,

ODIN said: "blah blah blah blah...."

It's a little more labor intensive but it works .. :)
