Posted about 6 years ago Can a misdamenor offense disqualify you from any agency academy that had occurred in 2002? |

Posted about 6 years ago It all depends on the nature of the offence. Most any type of domestic assault and battery or drug charge most likely will disqualify you. If its a petit larceny or simple assault, it may not. Be more specific and I will give you a more educated guess.

Posted about 6 years ago Many misdemeanors will NOT disqualify you. But they all SHOULD! Just my opinion.

Posted about 6 years ago NYPDLieutenant, I beg to differ, we're all human beings & therefore, not perfect. We have all, at one time or another, done something stupid in our lives that we are not proud of & for some it may have resulted in a misdemeanor. I don't think that something you did as a stupid, 16-17 yr old should prevent you 10 yrs later from being a cop. I'm pretty sure that just about anyone here who is in law enforcement has at one time or another, done something in their wild, ignorant youth, that they wish they hadn't done & regret doing. Having an unblemeshed,misdemeaor/felony free record does not always mean that person will make a great cop, look at cops that screw up after they join, probaly had perfect crime free records, yet committed a crime as a cop! As a former Marine myself, I can tell you that some of the best Marines I knew came from a bad upbringing & bad hoods, had a misdemeanor or 2, yet were outstanding Marines that fought bravely & with honor in Iraq. BTW, I grew up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn so I just wanna say hi to a fellow NuYawker!

Posted about 6 years ago No being 16 or 17 years of age shouldn't prevent you from being a cop if you made a mistake. It's the 18 to 25 year olds who get caught up in crap who should not become the police. At that age I think it's time to cut your ties with your "boys" on the corner and become an adult.

Posted about 6 years ago I LOST A JOB OVER SMACKING MY DAUGHTER IN THE FACE AFTER SHE KICKED THE OLDER SISTER IN THE FACE WITH HER FOOT. SHE LAUGHED ABOUT IT AND BRAGGED THAT SHE WAS GOING TO DO THE SAME TO A GIRL AT SCHOOL. YEP. A SMACK IN THE FACE AND AN EX WIFE. WOW. MISDEMEANOR CHARGE. THAT WAS ALL IT TOOK. BUT I DO DISCIPLINE MY 4 KIDS ALBEIT VERBALLY OR BY GROUNDING THEM AND THEY ARE ALL GOOD, EVEN THE ONE I SMACKED I THE FACE. BUT THIS TYPE OF DISCIPLINE IS NO LONGER ALLOWED. OH WELL.

Posted about 6 years ago CHOPPERPILOT, if you lived in Arizona you could smack her in the mouth with no arrest. I love nothing more than for some pompous teenager to call us and say their parent "abused" them. I get to tell them that is not the case and if they don't behave, I will come back, and watch their parent smack or spank them and then take the kid to jail.

Posted about 6 years ago Chopper I am not sure how long ago that happened but I would have appealed it. I have seen on rare occasion where one parent is pissed off at the other and without being investigated by law enforcement swears out a warrant for dimestic a&b becaused they disciplined a minor. Only 2 in 10 years have I seen convictions in J&D court. Both were appealed and dismissed in Circuit--But this is another topic for another day.

Posted about 6 years ago me too, LT. but i do think it depends on the offense. it should be up to the discretion of the applicant investigation unit. (let them earn their gold shields)

| Posted almost 6 years ago HEY, I WISH I COULD HAVE KEPT MY JOB. BUT HEY IN PA. ITS A MISD. OFFENSE TO SMACK YOUR KIDS ANYWHERE. I HAVE GOOD KIDS, BUT U HAVE TO DISCIPLINE YOUR KIDS. I HAD BEEN A HIGHWAY PATROL OFFICER, DECORATED AND NEVER SO MUCH AS A COMPLAINT AS A POLICE OFFICER. BUT NO WAY TO GET OUT OF A CHARGE OF SIMPLE ASSAULT.
