I'm getting a lot of reports here and there about complete and utter lack of support concerning anyone showing up for the memorial service in NY (despite the rain), or coverage by newspapers, community events, etc.

What has happened to our society much less the Thin Blue Line? Why is it more important for some of us to be more interested in say celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Brittany Spears, Lindsey Lohan, etc.?

This year I made a special 9/11 video to include those who continue to lose their life from 9/11 or are terminally ill/ suffer from it. It's not fancy and could be MUCH better, but no interest in it. Why? Because I guess it's much more exciting to see 20,000 pictures of planes slamming into the towers, smoke puring out, then our first responders who have died or suffering because of this act of terrorism. Nobody wants to see pictures of people sick or who have died so we can get the message out.

I tell you, running the memorial for 8 years I have seen much over the years. What I can tell you is the complete lack of consideration for our first responders.

In Chicago, our Officers here have a patrol car, star and their gun. Are you aware they (if they're lucky) have a computer in their car if even that, NO type of portable medical kit, any type of ventilation appartus, or tools for recovery/rescue efforts. If Chicago were to ever get hit liek New York, the same events would unfold here. Major casualties that would stretch for years to come such as our new Yorkers.

Last year, I had to ASK Mayor Daley to hold a major terrorism exercise in the Loop to include the public. A month later, he suddenly announces that hey, he was just "thinking" of holding some type of exercise for cops. I have the fax letter to him to prove it. Then he holds some lame exercise, even passing out t-shirts, water bottles and other things. As if it were a circus and he was giving out souvenirs.

So with all of my ranting, it seems like things such as I-Pods, Apple phones, Celebrities, etc are the highly important things in life and other things such as our military, first responders, COMMUNITY, etc are way on the bottom, if even that.

Sad. Just damn sad.

At one of the counties I worked at the county commission went as far as to publicly state our jobs weren't near as dangerous as the county road crews, and that was why their starting pay was a couple bucks an hour over what our pay was. One of our patrol cars had almost 400,00 miles on it. They told us we didn't need to replace it. Go figure.

There's a new organization that recently started for the WTC responders with health issues related to the rescue and recovery operations at Ground Zero... They only have an informational page in place right now, but have bigger plans for the future. I for one watched your video and appreciate it... It's just something that's difficult for me to talk about.

As a non leo I hear what you are saying and feel bad.. Because it is true you guys are not really talked about in a positve way. Or as you put it, only thought of when needed. But, as always , I have a way I might be able to help. it's little, but it's a start. if you want to PM me also.
