I am interested in doing all I can as a citizen to help stop the meth problems our nation is faced with. I have found that many people are not aware of just how bad the problem is. It seems that the more people know about meth the more they want to do to help stop it. Anybody have any thoughts on that?

It is our #1 problem in the courts. Seems like everyone we take to court is there for meth charges or some related charge. Probation violation, tested dirty " meth" Failure to appear, warrant issued and picked up with meth in possesion and it just keeps coming. In AZ we have changed the laws to what we refer to the 5, 10, 15 ruling. possesion will get you five on a first offense. Useable amount for resale will get you ten. and aggrivated will get you fifteen. It's not slowing down the problem but sure is filling up our prisons. Don't know the answer as it seems to be a revolving door. We have a drug court that is designed to help them but not real sure how well it is working. I have been told it takes around seven years to get this stuff out of your system. It is putting a real burden on the system, legal as well as social security. They are collecting disability social security benifits as they can't work due to there brain being fried. Our road cops are busting there butts to get this crap off the streets but the problem is growing like a wild fire.

MEth is like fighting a wildfire. YOU CANT PUT IN OUT. You have to slip in behind it and cut a fire break. Education and prevention is the only key to the solution. The users will simmer out by themselves. Keep others from using it or trying it and bust the ones we have now.

I was making several meth arrests every week. We had all the local stores remove anything that could be used in the manufacturing of meth and put it behind the counter or it had to be requested. Walmart is one of the worst. Some will work with you but others wont. New laws help somewhat. But it all comes down to doing what a cop does best.

Thanks for the link to Montanameth. org It gives me some good ideals. I take care of the website for the local sheriff's office. I produced a DVD for them called Meth=Death they distrubited to a wide range of people. This seemed to get a lot of people's attention. I split the video in 3 parts to let anyone go to the part they want to see again. They are posted on the Sheriff's website. I also produced a 30 sec. ad for local tv it is posted on the site as well. Anyone who would like to view them message me and I will send you the web address. It's seems that education is the most effective way to fight meth. Also I should note that most cable TV companies will run anti-drug messages for free as a public service. Why not take advantage of the resourse? If I can help anyone with anti-drug messages let me know. I am looking for any suggestions anyone may have.

I have had the opportunity to discuss this topic with a couple of "tweekers"
In their words....one time is all it takes.....
bathtub meth is easy to make,,,a few household chemicals an aquarium and no dealer needed....
Children are pampered and the ugly truth often hidden from them ,
doing them or society no favors...
"TV death" and drug use,,,,are the only info alot of kids get,,,,
some falling victim to the parents with the " not my child syndrome",,not my house,,,not my neighborhood....
The public is naive in it's thinking,,,
Reality is a hard wakeup call......
Meth is an immediate chemical craving in the brain. (according to the users I have spoken to )....leading to the next use.....
It has to be stopped before that point.....
The truth is an ugly thing and needs to be out of the closet (so to speak),,,and shoved up the publics noses till they get it....
These are your children,,,these are your neighbors,,,,,This is our future....

It is a small percentage of the population that has been involved with criminal activity but in my job capacity sometimes you wonder if there are any good citizens left, who will be our world leaders, who will pick up and carry on were we leave off, what are we going to have for a military force to protect this great country. There is good and bad points to law enforcement. The road guy gets them off the streets but feels the courts aren't doing enough. The detention officer wonders why the keep getting arrested and when are the going to figure out this is a dead end road. Court officers see them get convicted but can't help wonder were we are going to house them all in DOC and the DOC guy, well I can only wonder what must be going through his head. Be safe brothers and sisters as the world is making changes and not for the better.
