baked chicken boiled chicken and grilled chicken from just about any fast food joint around, and just the chicken, no softdrinks just real juice or water, subway sandwitches that have baked or grilled meats with mustard or bbq sauce.protien bars for a snack and high energy drinks during the shift, a good 4 day work out plan and resolve to be fit.when i first start a fitness plan i cut out all the sat and trans fats low carbs in the later part of my day.

I try and stay away from fast foods, drink plenty of water, and do my best to eat a balanced meal. I'd be better off packing my lunch though.

I hit the jackpot. Mrs. Sarge packs me a lunch just about every day. She insists on carrots, celery, yogurt, cheese sticks, a sammich and maybe a cookie. *I kid you not!* And she checks to see if I eat it all. *I kid you not!* And I am ordered to drink water....lots of it.

Now when she goes out of town, man, no holds barred. Chicken bowls, JITB Southwest Chicken Salad or Subway Roasted Chicken Sand'.

I encourage her to take as many out of town trips as she can.....

(Funny thing tho.....I generally feel great....must be her fault....)

I've layed off of the fast food joints alot, but you know, with a mexican food place on every corner here in San Diego, man I think I've turned into a mexican taco....hehe. But getting real here, I usually eat a salad twice a week, drink lots of water, gatorade(for the workouts) and juices, like cranberry juice...oh yuuuuumy. I eat a bowl of cereal in the morning, then a banana afterwards, Lunch, well lets see, I'll eat a egg salad sandwich or tuna sandwich or maybe even a chicken salad sandwich with a small bag of doritos and a ice cold bottled water. Dinner, I eat...well, another sandwich. Maybe a yogurt with it this time.. I envy The Sarge, I sure wish I had a wife that watched over me like that.

sooo true. the general rule of thumb is this.."if you hate it, it has no flavor, and it makes you gag......thats what you need to eat" just imagine if we all were forced to eat the things we hate most....we would be some skinny sons -a-beaches!.....just like allen jackson said, "that lowfat, nofat is gettin' hard to chew!"

I am lucky where I work, there is a lot of great good choses out there, but my best recommendation would be to pack you lunch. Better for you that way all the way around. That way you can avoid any "special sauce."

Old Chinese Proverb: Eat healthy, get plenty of sleep and exercise, die anyway"

Actually, being an old guy, and, as my Doctor says "mildy diabetic" whatever the hell that is, I went on the Nutrisystem Diet for Diabetics. Lost 25 pounds in about four months, and have kept it off. Sugar levels are good, and blood pressure dropped nicely. Food is all right, once you get used to it, and I have always eaten a lot of fresh fruit and veggies, so it is not too bad all around. Of course, I do blow the whole thing every once and again by stopping at the ice cream shop, but what the hell!

Is LITE beer a diet drink? And I guess that wouldn't apply to this thread b/c you can't drink it when you are on duty or on-call. I have been lucky, the last 2 years I have had an investigative job. I come home for lunch and I am on permanent dayshift. I need to get back in the gym and be a machine like ODIN! LOL

co7753 I'm with you on this one... not only is it packed with carbs & starch, a lot of it looks REALLY questionable to me. They had this stuff that smelled like chili but looked like... Well I'll let you fill in that blank. I'll stick you my baked turkey/ham sandwich & a couple of granola bars w/ gatorade or water

MidMOCo, it is all questionable, unfortuately at this point I am "state raised". I have been around long enough, however, that they don't dare mess with my food. However you still have to be selective, and NEVER, under any circumstances, eat the pudding!! :)

The thought of precooked food that has been chilled for days & reserved is not at all appetizing to me. The cornbread here, you could put under deadly in the use of force continuum. I always keep an eye toward the fresh fruit though checking for any abraisions/punctures on the skin of it first. I've seen every inch of food service & have elected to eat only what I can readily identify without the use of the monthly menu. 0(:oP)
