Its been a while now but I had found a web site where I could purchase special ID cards just for my family members. These cards identified them as spouse or children of an LEO. Now I can't remember where I had seen them.

Can any one point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

There are bumper stickers for LEO's to purchase for family. You can only get these if you are active and must have ID and letter heal. Check out POLICE magazine for the add..

This could make your family a target though.

they are small and suppose to be identified by officers only. I did not purchase any but have friends that have them.

Thanks for your replies. I have seen the various bumper and window stickers that are available. What I had seen in the way of an ID card (if I can remember correctly) was that it was a metallic card, bronze, and had the officers name and dept along with the family member's information and photo.

I agree with DSDarryl as to the targeting issue with some of the stickers. Discretion is always the better option.

Except now the public knows via this street, they can google their asses off, find it, replicate it, and plaster it all over Ebay for $2.99 plus $10 S&H. :D

I'd be careful about the stickers indicating you are LEO or even represent LEO. We have them here in WA state. A little bear, blue for city, green for county and gold for state. There were many of us that put them on our POV's. Recently the media here got wind of it and wrote a whole scathing article about how we put it there to get out of tickets and even worse get out of crimes such as DUI's, reckless driving etc. The paper made sure that the citizens knew what the sticker looked like and what they think it means. I would love to have a sticker so I can show pride in my profession like the Fire Fighters or Iron Workers do, but it must mean I just want out of a ticket. Yes it does make us a target too. One guy had his tires slashed on his car and he thinnks it was because of the sticker. How else would one car in a parking lot of hundreds be the only one to get it's tires slashed. Be careful if you do put one on your car or your families cars.

Its a shame that some media has the proverbial hard-on for LE as they deliberately misinterpret the symbolism of these identifying stickers that LEOs use on their POVs. As a group we must work to educate the media and civilian population that, although there are a few of us who use these symbols of our sworn responsibilities to gain dishonorable advantage, the vast majority of LEOs are honorable and professional and adhere to their oath to the letter.

The display of the Thin Blue Line or other identifying stickers show our support to our Brotherhood (not to leave out our sisters) just as firefighters and EMS. I know that I display my Thin Red Line and my Blue Star proudly on the back of my POV along with my Thin Blue Line and my 9-11 memorial stickers. I am fortunate to live in a community were LE, for most part, is respected and inter-agency relationships are also very strong.

St. Louis city has stickers for POV's for officers off duty and family members vehicles. It is very easily identified.

Just be careful. The media here in Seattle says that officers that have the sticker are just using it to get out of a ticket and that makes the officer corrupt.

I know of no reason why my wife or kids should need any ID that they are related to a LEO. As for something on the vehicle, I used to have one of those thin blue line small stickers in my rear window but everyone and their brother has one now and it no longer means you are a LEO. The only thing I have now is one of those small patches saying I gave to the Sheriff's boys ranch because I believe it is a good thing. I also have a very small thin blue line shield that is on the back of my motorcycle helmet. The reason is because I am proud I am a retired cop and nothing else. If someone has a problem with that, then I am right there to take it up with them personally. Something that just isn't all that smart to do. LOL!

The Seattle PI seems to often go after LE, and like KCSOCris said, they really did up a huge story on the bears. They called it a "cop out" to have a bear on your vehicle. The story also seemed to criticise the LEO memorial license plates that many vehicIes here in Washington have, as well as the firefighter plates and firefighter stickers. It's very unfortunate and annoying that they choose to focus on the very few who abuse such identification and fail to recognize the many who serve proudly and well.

DetSgtDarryl: No kidding - I too have to wonder who pissed off that reporter. I really hate how the media second-guesses situations like high speed chases, shootings, etc. and I've written many letters protesting how they cover law enforcement. For every negative cop story, there are probably 200 or more postive cop stories - but the media coverage sure leads one to believe otherwise.

Please think about the idea before marking unarmed civilians with police stickers, symbols, etc... We had an officer's wife threatened with a shotgun to the face because of this. Had she not sped off through the light and away the result may have been worse. I'm sorry it's come to this, but in this day and age, it's not a good thing to mark yourself a target. My opinion.

I don't have anything on my POV that indicates LEO. I have my D/L in my credential wallat, they will see the badge and ID as I get my D/L, if they have any interest in cutting me a break they will ask to check out my ID, if not, they won't and I will take my ticket and go on my merry way!

Wallet? Same with me though. No sense in carrying two W-A-L-L-E-T-S so I just use the one with my badge and ID.
