Hi, my name is Nichole. My father was killed in the line of duty in October of 1992. He would be 45 next month and this time of the year is always hard for me. I have lived more of my life without my daddy then I did with him (I was 9 when it happened) and now I have started a family of my own and being without him has not gotten any easier. People always tell me "time heals all wounds".... well it doesn't. Time just makes things different. It will never take away the pain I have in my heart every day living without him here.
I now have two boys of my own and my oldest has began to question why he doesn't have a Paw Paw on my side of the family. It is hard for me because he will never know how wonderful, loving, respectful and heroic my dad was. There will never be enough words to make anyone understand it.
It has been almost 15 years since I lost my dad. I miss him more everyday. My heart goes out to the men and women of law enforcement. I pray for your safety everyday and hope that you return home to your families. You never know when you might answer a call and not get to go home again. Stay safe and God Bless you all.
To the families who have lost a loved one... I wont say I know how you feel because every situation is different but I will say I am sorry and hope that as each day comes the memories get brighter and the love gets stronger.
Thank you for taking time to read this.. sometimes I don't know where to turn or who to talk to but I thought this might just be the place.
Nichole

Nichole, I am sorry for your loss.

Are there ways you have tried to help your boys know about your dad? It's important for his love and his story to be passed along in your family, it is a way you can honor his memory.

I know that whatever you do along those lines, it's not like having him there in person.

Hi! Thank you for your post. It really is nice to know there are people out there who care!

My son is almost 4 so it is a little difficult to find ways to explain it to him. We talk about my daddy often and hope that one day he will be able to understand it all at least a little at a time....It is still something I deal with everyday and with his birthday and the date of his death coming up this is a very difficult time of the year.

daddysgirl10021992 My baby girl is a deputy and I am always fearful of her safety. But As she said this is something she really wants to do and I'm proud of her for it. I am like you said I can never know your pain but I think you and I both have a place here with family. My Deepest apologies for your loss and good luck with your new family.

A concerned father
