| Posted almost 6 years ago i have four tattoos myself, nothing obscene, just eagles. fortunately, my tattos are covered. but even if they werent, tattoos are an expression, like freedom of speech. to me, visible tattoos should be accepted. |

| Posted almost 6 years ago Tat's are sexy and an expression of the person wearing them. I do, however, feel that they need to be covered while on duty. Wish the hubby would get one;) "It would be better for one to have a stone tied around their neck and thrown into the sea, than to cause a child to stumble." | Posted almost 6 years ago I have a tattoo, its a military thing I got one day with my buddies after a long night of hitting the clubs LoL. Fortunatly it is covered when in uniform and will only show when getting down and dirty with a bad while I am in the summer uniform. Tasteful tattoo's are not an issue but when they become vulger or obscene then they should not be allowed, or visible. To tell someone we are not going to hire you because you have a tatto is just wrong. And it will lead to more and more shortages in our profession as tattoo's seem to becoming a mainstay in the current up and coming canidates for our profession which is starting in highschools. The most common being tribal tattoo's. Now if someone shows up with tear drops under there eyes or lightningbolts then they should be looked at harder during the interview process for criminal proceedings as most of the LEO's will tell you they most commonly mean something that is gang related. |

| Posted almost 6 years ago Tattoos should be permitted, however, if they are visible in uniform, they should be covered. But, I think that depends on what they are too, nothing obscene or that could be taken as offensive or offending. To me tattoos are just as much a part of law enforcement culture as they are with the military. I'll bet that 95% of LE has a tattoo of some sort, so why start banning them now? It doesn't make sense. |

It was for my nephew who was killed in an accident. They called him "Bear" because he was so big. Me, His brother, father, and his fellow fire academy cadets all got paw print tats. You find something, but make sure you can live with it. "It would be better for one to have a stone tied around their neck and thrown into the sea, than to cause a child to stumble." | Posted almost 6 years ago ok here is were i sand on this. i have six tats and all are very important to me. i have one on calf for my brother who was killed in iraq. i have one on my left arm that is a cross asking for forgivness for the things i have seen and done in iraq. the one on my right arm is to remind me of my past and how it has made me stronger. the other others can not be seen. in todays world i do not think tats are a bad thing. i think the only time they should have to be covered is in a dress uniform!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| Posted over 5 years ago I personally have several tats, however only two show. If they are tasteful and non-offensive then fine. But just like TV shows, music or whatever in life. You will never please everyone. Someone in the public will have a problem with not matter what you do. Wear 'em proud. |

| Posted over 5 years ago I personally think, if you have tattoo’s that is fine. I myself have two, however they are above the sleeve line. Say an Officer has a one or two tattoo’s that are tasteful and neat below the sleeve line, let it be. If he wants to show them, let him. Same goes for officers that wear shorts. As for Officers who have tattoos in mass quantity, time to cover it up. One or two tattoos with a uniform look ok, but not the whole ink shop. As for the tattoo’s on the neck and things like that. Don’t think so, it’s just my opinion but, just don’t work with a uniform. |

| Posted over 5 years ago We are developing a policy regarding tattoos. I have none...don't like needles, never have, never will! So far, we only have one officer who's tattoo shows in a short sleeved shirt. One has one that shows when he is in a bike patrol uniform, wearing shorts. Tattoos are a personal choice and are a means of expression. Both of my sons have tattoos, doesn't bother me. Lots of tattoos showing while in police uniform, that bothers me...maybe I am just an old guy, but I believe that first impressions are important, especially in law enforcement. | Posted over 5 years ago My tats reflect my Irish Heritage, but are easily concealed by even a short sleeve shirt.Cops should not get tattooed to the point that they are easily mistaken for Skells, discretion and common sense are the key. | Posted over 5 years ago Even if my tattoos are not offensive to anyone you still think it could harm my chances like one is my birth sign and a star on my wrist then the rest of them are not visible and i probley could cover the ones on my wrist with a watch or somthing |

| Posted about 5 years ago Ok here is something to think about, "all you women...the goverment is going to tell you what you can do with YOUR BODY!" well, this is kinda the same thing. If I want ink, then the goverment-which includes police departments have NO right in telling people what they can or cannot do with their bodies. When it comes to "on duty" you can regulate my actions and speech- but "wool long sleeve shirts" in 100 plus summer weather is a not reasonable to make an officer wear just becuase you do not like his OR HER ink. Most of the coppers I know (myself included) have had tastful ink done-some have more than others-but this is who they are. Police managers really need to get a grip and come back down to earth and realize we are people not freaken slaves and you can only control our lives so much. We did not give out our rights the day we pinned on that badge-the US Constitution applies to us as well I sat with many a community group and not one little ol lady got up and walked out or was offended by an officers ink. The fact is that department leadership gets off on playing "God" and telling people what they can and cannot do-until some copper stands their ground and says, "NO." I expect that this will happen-don't expect the unions to get involved-it will be some copper who says it and fights for their rights alone. |

| Posted about 5 years ago As long as you don't have any tats that appear in the gang identification manuals (lol) they should be fine. I wouldn't expect to see a tear drop from an officers eye or a pitchfork on his neck. I would have to say that the no tats policy for some dept are ridiculous. |
