I see where Atlanta is trying to pass a No Sagging law and a few others that have to do with dress code. I am assigned to a Middle School and there are a lot of inner-city kids who attend here. Nine out of ten of them sag, but I also know a lot of their parents or parent and see where they get it from. The school has a new policy in place that prohibits excessive baggy pants and any shirt that hangs below mid-thigh (safety concerns for weapons). Of course they are defiant 110%. Any ideas other than beat their little asses into submission?

I didn't even know there was a name for it! I have certainly seen kids with their clothing hanging off them about ten sizes too big, and I have heard that criminals will do this so they have on easy-to-shed layers so they can quickly change their appearance.

I'm afraid I don't have any ideas about enforcing it-- it sounds like a can of worms, to try to decide what degree of sag is acceptable!

Actually the most effective plan is not in your power to put into place-- if the trend-setters decided it looks as ridiculous as I think it looks, it would go out of style except by those people who had an ulterior reason to wear it.

When I was a kid, we wanted to be respected as grown-up, so a lot of our clothing was picked to make us look grown up. These fashions that make people look like little kids who are playing dress-up make me shake my head. But then, I am a dinosaur, so what do you expect?

Back to the subject of the thread...

I watched a video where a teenager was wearing the same type baggy clothes. He walked up to a table and pulled out a sawed off shotgun, pistols, knives, brass knuckles, about eleven weapons in all. The dress code is primarily a safety concern, but it also keeps the school from looking gang ifested.

Someone sent me a video of a kid with baggy clothes,,,not unlike many you see in the schools...
Concealed in these clothes were about 16 weapons including a shotgun, various pistols and knives,,,
This is not as much an argument on fashion as to safety.
Our local schools have a very strict dress code, that includes no baggy clothes, no graphics on clothes, no "colors" , no hair color thats not a "natural color", no "hoochie dress " anything that could be considered a distraction to other students....
If you show up in school inappropriately dressed you will get sent home to change (no exceptions)...
.if you choose not to show back up at school your parents will be fined $
You are free to express yourself away from public schools
(my tax dollars aren't paying for an extended fashion show).....

And that is certainly a legitimate concern for the school to have, as well as sensible students and sensible parents. It's a good argument for having a school uniform, isn't it?

I suppose we're getting to a point where kids will need to go through metal detectors at the doors in some places. It's a pity.

I am glad you are there, hogwild, and hope you will stay safe.

Sagging. Isthat what u call it? I was in the shortest foot pursuit of my career about 20 feet from the car door. When his pants feel down and he tripped over to the ground.... still makes me laugh

That is the only thing about sagging that I like. When they run from you they either trip over their own clothes and another thing is that they wear their shoes untied. I can drive around certain areas of town and find mismatched shoes all over the place from where we had chased somebody and they ran ouf their shoes. I take them and give'em to the salvation army just in case I find a match to a pair of shoes.

Let them wear their costume. I enjoy watching the clowns.
