A couple of years back I had a Glock 21 blow up in my hand on the range.... Beware...

Thats too bad, sorry to hear that happened to you. Unfortunately this can happen with any gun and isn't something specific to the Glocks. The 1st Gen Glocks in all Calibers have had some issues due to barrels and like any gun lots of catistrophic failures can happen due to many factors.

I've never owned a Glock that's why i'm asking. I know I can find anything I need for the 22 at my local uniform shop as danR8 mentioned it's readily available and I believe I can find just as much equipment with the 21. I have a friend who is LAPD that wants to sell me his 21.

Ok so do I purchase the 21 or 22 first? It would be a little to expensive to purchase both at the same time.

Really. So the outcome was.....? I carry a 9mm now i'm gonna go try to find some.

I personally have a G22 and was issued a G22C for duty use. I have shot the G21 before and think it's just too big and bulky.

Look, if you have a choice as to what gun you get to carry with your agency then find one you can shoot the best and one that supports a round that can offer high performance rounds. 9 mm or larger for duty use in my opinion. I am a huge Glock fan but the .45 GAP was about the most stupid idea I've ever heard of. Lets look at this, its a .45 caliber round with a short case. Sounds like a .380 on steriods to me. What the hell is that like light beer or what. Just carry a .45 ACP or don't carry a damn .45 because I will tease you.

The Glock 23 is a fantastic weapon and provides both concealability and enough size to be a perfect primary weapon. The .40 cal is proven itself as a stopper. I reload nearly a thousand .40 cal a month for practice and with a very light load and a 155 grain bullet I can knock holes is steel drums at over a hundred yards. I have fired these same reloads as well as factory rounds and duty rounds into car doors and other similar metal and it punches right through, even at angles as high as 45 degrees.

I also say go with a 22. If the 21 feels bulky to you.. look at the 21SF, I had one for a while and still felt bulky. Looking down the sights was like waiting for a P51 to land on this "air craft carrier slide" the G21 has. 22 is the best all around I feel. The most frequently purchased Glock pistol is the 22, after that its the 19.
