Here is a situation... this happened my partner got in his car, turned on his lights and siren hit a curb, got a flat tire and was more worried about the tire than the chase...

You are on a traffic stop and the driver gives you false info 3 times, you call for backup. Your backup arrives and you decide to arrest the driver (it's a crime in Ohio to drive without your license on your person). Your partner is looking around like he's in a fashion contest when you attempt to handcuff the suspect... the foot chase is on. You take off running after the suspect, and you advise radio that you have a foot chase... as the backup officer you would do what?

Get in my car and drive to the area the scumbag is running towards. This has happened to me while I was backing people up before and I always end up catching him. The guy actually running never does.

Being a runner, I would pursue on foot. It would do no good to get in your patrol car around here, as the thugs hit the woods. Ya either run 'em through the thick briars and privets till they drop, or try to set up a perimeter until K-9 can get on scene. Last one that ran from me I told, "...ya can't outrun me!". He didn't. Funny thing is, when I asked for his name, he gave me his deceased brother's name who had an outstanding warrant for burglary. My guy had no warrants, but had just committed a burglary of a business down the road. Life sure is strange sometimes... :)

I chase him down like a rabid dog, as per ussual! Where I work my partners and I are looking for the gangster with a gun, so we chase A LOT OF SUSPECTS, with said heaters! Broadcast your location and direction of travel, as well as a brief descripsion of the suspect some thing like this: 18G31, SHOW ME IN FOOT PURSUIT SOUTHBOUND AVALON FROM 118TH STREET OF A MAN WITH A GUN, MALE BLACK, RED HAT, WHT SHIRT, BLACK PANTS! i NEED BACK UP AND AN AIR SHIP (if you have air ships)" .. Continually upbate your direction of travel when it changes in possibly. I always continually verbalize to the suspect, that he had better stop and or toss the gun (if a guns involved) and articulate to him that I will shoot him if he makes any overt threat towards me with said weapon. If he get distance on you, set up a perimeter and get it locked down ASAP! Then you have time on your side, and you can call in K-9, additional units or if a baracaded suspect and it is nessisary get SWAT involved. Later after the dust has settled, I would have a word with my partner, if it's a temporary head in ass deal on his part, no harm no fould. Just a good learning expirience. If he has his head to far up his ass, you have a come to Jesus meeting with him and tell him he better un F%$K himself. Anyway stay Safe Warriors! And this is why you HAVE GOT TO STAY FIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh yeah and as for the broadcast, if the POS starts shooting at you? Get on your front site and put some rounds down range, you don't want to die with a radio in your hand. Who ever the cover Officer is can put out the broadcast of shots fired, but you have to talk to your partners and have that understanding down cold for when the shit hits the fan...At that point it's FRONT SITE PRESSSSS!. Stay Safe...
