Does anyone know a ink to a tutorial featuring the old style nightsticks with the long lanyards, or "thongs" that the old beat cops used to have, and twirl? It wasn't even twirling, really, it was like a really cool yoyo type movement...or "flicking" if you will. I have a neighborhood I walk through regularly, and would like to learn this forgotten art.

It takes a little practice. You may break your own knee-caps a few times, but eventually you get the hang of it.

I remember it well. I used to get a kick out of it and thought it was so cool. When did it change from nightstick to baton? Anyone see where I tell of the beat cop whacking us across the back of the legs and moving us off the corner. He came up a twirling and then wham, across the back of the legs.

Wear knee pads. OUCH! did it again. Well, just have to replace that knee.

Thanks all!!! I'm thinking of ordering a really nice one from Larabee nightsticks. 14.5 oz. 22" in length. Since I still like to walk a "beat", I figure it would be a fun thing to do while being out there. (May I add that I do this on my own.,..our department has no problem with me saving the fuel/wear & tear on my cruiser.)

I still have my old nightstick that is basically nothing more than a long oak stick. With proper training you can do quite a bit with it. That nightstick and I have gone on many a patrol together. As my department, or should I say the Mayor, did not want anyone to carry nightsticks I could only bring it out at night where it did it's job many times. LOL

Our department issued a riot baton to all officers this thing was 3 ft long and had a lead center with a lead ball at each end. Our sgt used to walk around twirling that thing til he knocked himself out when he hit himself in the head. :)

Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.
