I know this has been around for a while now, I'm just curious as to how many agencies actually have the ability to run their own NCIC inquiries, names/DOBs, and plates, from in the car, with the computer, and not verbally through a dispatcher. And, hows the system work for you, is a pain or is it easy?

We have that option on our MDC's, but they are based on cell phone connectivity....so if you are in an area with no service, you are out of luck!

We can run names, cars, stolen guns, boats, atv if they are registered which they rarely are through our in car computer. It works pretty fast since we use verizon air cards instead of in car modems.

Nice, thats what I'm hearing so far from other guys I know. The military is obviously still in the stone age with our comms as far as for LE, so I doubt I'll ever see it. My MDT is good for Word, a crappy map, and the camera program that works when it wants to!

the only thing we can't run is criminal history

Ur dept should try AIR CARDS for the MDTs....you wont need those towers

We can do that and a bit more... My past experiance with air cards is that they are not as reliable as MDTs (in rural areas).

We're just on the outside of Large Metro area and our AirCards are sometime unreliable. Check them out carefully first. They may not work or you may need an external antenna like we had to do.

I can do it and ...I can also get in-state driving records ( the whole thing) , drivers license photos ( this is handy) and in depth registration information.

I can also get the prison inmate listings and mug shot photos from the state prison system.

I cannot get out-of-state driving records or photos but can get drivers license info and reg info.

We've had it now for over 2 years. We are on a different system than we started. We started with Premier MDC. We are using Visual something or another. We just swapped over. The new system rocks. We can run everything except criminal and driver's history. We even can access jail files to a limited extent. If you run a tag, it will let you know if it's been stopped previously.
We also do all of our reports but a few misc. reports on it. Once we are done typing it we submit it for approval over the computer. Once it's approved you're done. No paperwork to turn it at the end of the day but the mileage sheet.

We had them a while back and they went away. I'm pushing for them hard again and trying to find grants to purchase them.

We can run pretty much everything NCIC can, including DL photos. Its a nice system, makes me wonder how we ever got along without them.

We can run BMV (driving records and license plates, as well as stolen), NCIC, Criminal History, and receive driver's license photos in the cars. We also have an intermet connection. Nothing like that for the motorcycles though.

Non-LEO here sending out KUDOS: Way to go last weekend, OHIO STATE TROOPERS, on stopping the Stolen Car from Indiana on the OH turnpike....looks like the "Automatic Plate Identifier Systems" you are using, are "earning their keep"!! Hooyahh!!

Excuse me, but now I have a suggestion. (I knew I shouldn't have read any "techno" articles first thing in the morning!) Why aren't ALL police cars equipped with "MOBILE Automatic Plate Identifier Systems" that are linked to a NATIONAL database?
Such a System could automatically "SCAN" the plates of cars in the vicinity of the cruiser.... simultaneously run a "real-time" search for Criminal record... and IMMEDIATELY signal the Officer of: Plate #, Make/model, owner, Outstanding warrants, last location (tie it into GPS system), direction, speed, approximate headings, etc... (and relay same information to dispatcher to "call for back up").
Come on CONGRESS where are you at on FUNDING for this!??! (If a "janitor" can come up with this idea, WE SHOULD ALREADY HAVE IT IN EVERY INTERCEPTOR NOW!!!)
HoooooYah!!! ("Let's "clean up those roads Cronies"!!:-)

We've been able to run plates for the past two years. We just got an update last month that when we run a plate we get the vehicle information, the dl photo of the registerd owner along with any criminal history or warrants. Life is great.

We have Verizon Aircards in our Laptops. Able to run FCIC and a FL DMV data base called DAVID, has DL picture and driving history. What an asset that is
