Hi.
I've always wanted to be in law enforcemenet. I'm not sure what the age cut off is. I'm 41 now and still in great physical shape. Back when My ex-boyfriend joined the academy he was 36. And now a wonderful officer in Manatee county Fl.... Is it different from county to county now? I live in Miami dade. If I have passed the age, do they offer it as part time? I've heard something about that. Well I hope someone can answer my question about the cut off age in joining the police academy and hopefully joining the force.
Much thanks,
Michelle

Most federal jobs the age cutoff is 37. Not sure about local agencies in FL. Probably just have to check them out individually. Most have web sites now with helpful info.

Thank you Panther for your reply. I will check into the local agencies. If there is a cutoff age...Hopefully, I might find some place in law enforcement that will suit me. Thanks again.

IN my case I joined the military late at the age of 24, I am now 27 with 3 more years of active service I plan on joining a department hopefully in north Texas, like Grayson County or Sherman Tx police dept but I will be 30 when I get out of the military, and i know that is kinda young stilll but still hope they will pick me up.

Upper age limit is a question I get a lot at our department as I am the recruiter. I know the fed's say you can not discriminate based on age, however it seems that many departments across the country do (the feds included). Not sure if it just takes someone to challenge a department's upper age limit to get things changed or not. Here at my department there is no upper age limit, the oldest we have hired so far as a police officer is 52yoa. The bulk of people we hire is probably late twenties to mid thirties.

KSP did away with an age cutoff, the thought process was, if you can pass the fitness test they do not care how old you are.

Pain is weakness leaving the body.

Obstacles are what we see when we take our eyes off the goal.

The reason most federal agencies have an age cut-off i.e. 37, is because they have a 20 yr retirement system and you must retire out at 57 1/2.

It may sound like discrimination, but really it is to the applicants benefit. So they don't hire into a job they can't retire from.

However, many feds have extended the limit to 40 and some to 42. Just check them out before applying.

The KSP philosophy is, If you can pass OUR fitness test, we don't care how old you are we want you.
