My oral interview is in 8 days- 29th. Any background quiestions come up during this time? I read in another thread that they try to confuse you, is this done through questions from the past, or through hypothetical situations? How many interviewers will it be with? The time is not changable, so I assume it will be with multiple people.

well, oral interview over... seemed like the way to get through it was to brag about myself...
if all goes well, I get an "executive interview" on the 4th
pray for me! this is something I really want!!

Try not to be nervous and just be as relaxed as you can. it is just to see how comfortable you are and what kind of stressfull questions they can ask you to get you nervous. Be honest dont lie. Im sure there will be a lie detector test later on.

Ondegoodcop is right. Just try to stay relaxed. When I interviewed, anything I said was wrong. They tried to make me nervous and feel like my answers were wrong. You'll be fine and good luck. Keep us posted.

well, in my oral interview, they said that the next interview- shoudl i be asked to move on- would be sept 4... and that i would get a call before then. well, it is sept 3 @10PM and no call. so i assume that I get to reapply next time and go through the process again.
the only hope that i have is that they have tried to call me, but not been able to get a hold of me becuase i was at work. i will keep the house phone close tomorrow morning in hopes they will call!

That's too bad! Do you think it would be a good or bad thing to try calling them? I know you don't want to rush or annoy them, but just to see what the status of your application is.

first interview... i took the physical and written test, this past interview was to happen to all applicants who passed both tests (so everyone was allowed to have the interview). the next interview (the one i am waiting for) was for those who passed the first interview.
how about this tidbit- i was the first person interviewed after the tests. is/was that a good sign or just luck of the draw?
if i was to call, what would i say? "i never got a call, am i supposed to assume that i am not getting the interview scheduled today?" that kindda puts the person i am talking to in a bad position if the answer is "no"

i talked to a female co worker today, her husband is former SF for army. Many of the local sheriff departments purchased their weapons (AR-15?) through him. I asked her if he husband had any connections with my city's police department to which i might be able to use him as a reference next hiring cycle. she said he refused to do any work with/for them becasue of their attitude with him.

my oral is next tuesday... im kinda nervous. I was the first to call back after getting my letter, there are only 7 other applicants that made it this far out of 68. i asked for the first interview, dont know why jucst seemed like a good idea. sent my suit in to the dry cleaner and im getting a fresh haircut the day before. other than first impressions, i would love any tips on questions you may have been asked in your oral interviews any mistakes you might have made. preperation is half the battle i dont care what anyone says. oh one other question i will definately be honest with the board but i did ecstacy when i was 16 thats ten years ago.... i was wondering if that could disqualify me?
any help appreciated semper fi

Dropping E is a pretty big deal...I know that quite a few departments (mine included) don't look too kindly upon people who have done hard drugs, even if it was years ago. For that your biggest obstacle is going to be OWNING up to it and ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY (not some crap like, "my friends made me do it...honest!") and then telling them what you have done/haven't done to better yourself since then. I honestly had fun with my oral boards...I've done five of them and passed each one. Go in, be friendly, be polite (sirs and ma'ams only), smile when appropriate and be serious when needed. If they crack a joke it's okay to laugh so long as they're laughing. I'm assuming from your post that you were in the Marines (hence the semper fi), so make sure to talk about that a little AFTER they ask about your drug use. Seriously, try to just be calm and have some fun with it. They know you're not going to know all the answers...you're not a cop yet...so just do the best you can.

My first oral was pretty rough. My voice cracked the entire time becasue I was so nervous. I passed it anyway. Be your self, answer honeslty, keep eye contact and like RECRUIT said, have fun. No one likes talking to a robot.

in the academy im tryin to get into doing anything like x, pcp, lsd, will automatically get you disqualified, reason being any of those drugs could come back and hit you when you dont expect it
