Yes. I also want the individual to be properly trained in the use of a firearm, both legally and morally. In addition a proper background check including a mental eval should be required for CCW.

Yes, training is good, Id like to see a standardized course maybe even a national carry for those they are willing to undergo the training

I'm all for it.

You are clearly better than everyone, our safety and the laws should be of no concern to you.

I support concealed carry. I'm skittish about the mental eval, just because I know what the anti gunners would do with it. They get an inch they'll take a mile!!! Then we'll be like other countries where the LEO's dont even carry!

Legal or not some people will still carry concealed weapons. I think that concealed weapons should be legal but only "good" citizens will get permits.

Im not so sure i'd be for it for the simple fact that there would be more deaths. If one guy pisses the other off, he just pulls out his gun and shoots him. Regardless of a mental evaluation. I think guns should be left for the police and military men and women. Then again, i agree with what Stormie says too.

When I was intern at the PD down here in FL, a det. actually got me the paperwork for my ccw and I sent it in to the state and have had it for over 1 year know. I feel better knowing I can keep my gun on me and or in my vehicle w/o worrying to much.

We've had it in Texas for quite a few years, very few horror stories of intersection shootouts by law-abiders with road rage. Goes hand-in-hand with people telling me all the time that they couldn't be a cop because of their temper......I tell them all the same thing, you'd be surprised at the self-control you have when the power to take a life is placed in your hands. I've got a temper, but I'm not killing everybody that pisses me off, that's what ground and pound's for !

I also where my gun concealed at work, I don't need the ccw for that in the state that I'm it allows for people to wear firearm at work w/o ccw. It's a very rough neighborhood in ft lauderdale. There is alot of drug dealing and other crimes in the area. I have been lucky though never had to pull it out and use it yet. I have been ther a little over 13 years now.

Again Im in a ccw state very few stories about negligent use. I know how long it sometimes takes to get help all think we all do. Where I used to live was a very rural area covered by troopers at night one car with two troopers for the whole county. In an emergency they could get to my house in about 30 minutes. You cant always count on the cavalry being there in time

I am not a police officer but I do have a permit to carry a concealed weapon. I live in Maryland were it is near impossible to get one, as a correctional officer I still needed to provide documentation proving that threats had been made on my life. Since this is a daily thing in a jail it was not a problem but without them I would not have gotten it. The process took around 4 months and I must renew every 2 years. I have carried for over 6 years now and I have never been asked what I carry, never been asked to show any understanding local laws in regards to carrying and using the weapon or to show that I can hit what I am shooting at. I think a national conceal carry law is a better way to go as it is federal law in the form of the bill of rights that acknowledges the right of citizens to carry a weapon. Once a person is found to be a law abiding citizen without a history of mental instability they should be tested on basic gun safety and their understanding of the laws that will govern the use of the weapon and be made aware of their responsibilities as a armed citizen. Finally for god sakes MAKE THEM QUILIFY WITH THE WEAPON! And not at the 70% that many LE programs allow officers to work with, anything lower than 90% no permit. As an instructor for my dept. I must shoot no less than 90% twice per year to stay as an instructor; non-instructors are once per year at 80%. If permit holders were required to maintain this level of marksmanship along with maintaining a good working knowledge of the law I believe this would be an asset to law enforcement and make for safer streets.

The criminals are going to carry weapons regardless of the laws. I am a LEO, I'm also a card carrying life member of the NRA. I believe an armed society is a polite society. A citizen of this country should have the legal right to carry a weapon upon his person and defend himself should the need arise. A concealed carry permit should be issued to those qualified and those qualifications should be realistic and attainable. Lastly, you only have the rights that you EXERCISE.

there a country in GA where everyone house is required by law to own one gun.. cannot remember which one of course. however the crime rate there is near to nothing. Now if this were a nation wide law I really believe that the nations crime rates would drop.

In texas when somebody takes the concealed carry class they are instructed to give an officer dealing with them their concealed carry license. Even if the don't it will pop up when we run their DL. I'm not worried about somebody carrying legal. It's everybody else that scares me.

IN Pennsylvania we can open carry without any permits necessary. If your in a vehicle, or concealing on your person you do need a permit. We are not required to notify LEO's. It is not recorded any where and all LEO's I know including myself , agree with this . We dont have shoots outs in the streets ( by ccw permit holders ) Permit holders in Pa take this responsibility very seriously.

YES I DO............... Criminals are already carring concealed weapons anyway. Now that Missouri has passed the carry conceal law many civilians are going to class and getting their permits.

Methodeus - City in GA is Kennesaw. Statute was enacted quite a few years ago and also states if citizen cannot afford a firearm, one will be provided until such time as the citizen is able to procure one of their own. My kind of place!

The way I see it is, that a criminal will carry a weapon legally or illeaglly, most of the time illegally. So why cant civillians have a right to defend themselves. After all, it is the constitution. Sencondly, if someone is going to put out the mooney and time for training, hopefully the persuades them from doing anything illeagal. I agree with Robo, a psych eval. should be conducted. There are some weird ones out there.
