Got denied for a ride along....Why???

I recently put in applications for a ride along around the county and I received a message today that an application I had submitted at a particular patrol station was not approved by the captain. I didn't get a reason why and I'm not sure if I'm entitled to one. I haven't heard from any of the other departments yet. I know I DON'T have any felonies, unpaid tickets, warrants, or anything else negative that would end up on one's record. So, I'm somewhat perplexed. Can anyone give me any insight on this issue???????

I wasn't requesting any particular day or time. I left it open. Do you know if they can or even have to give me a reason?

I can understand that being an issue. However, these are depts. with ride along programs. If they didn't want to deal with liability, wouldn't they just get rid of the program?

Come on up to LAPD brother and I'll get you a ride along in any division you want! That Captian sounds like a slap-dick, if they were just short, or had any other tactical concerns he should have indicated so in his denial! And Liability my ass, you sign the waiver, and they did a back ground check! If you have no legal issues, there should be no problem and obviously your not some idiot just looking for a thrill, your interested in Law Enforcement as a career. So I would try again, in another division, or like I said, come on up here to LA and we'll get you set up.

Go to the department where you put in the application and ask why you were denied. They are the only people that can give you an answer. If you're ever in NYC go to any Precinct and fill out some liability paperwork. They will give you a vest to wear and you're good to go. I would suggest the Midtown South Precinct (Times Square) or the 19th Precinct. By the way, don't forget to fill out the "Next of Kin" section on that paperwork!!

haha you know what is funny.. i can go on a ride along as a civilian.. but if i wanna ride along with a regular officer on patrol as auxiliary i can't.. wtf?..but that is just my command i guess.. and then maybe it would look bad going behind my coordinators back if i went and did a ride along in another command?.. who knows...

First off they don't have to give a reason for the denial. Second, don't give up, you'll eventually get one. The best reason you can put on is "intersted in pursuing a career in Law Enforcement". Good luck.

I used to make the ride a longs put ME as "next of kin / benefactor." Then scare the crap out of them at high speeds going to a call. Some I let ride with me became cops. Some didnt.

My eyesight is not so good, and when I looked at the menu under "Most Recent" I saw this thread but misread it. It looked like "God denied for a ridealong"!

I don't know where you are trying to get a ride along... but I will assume you want to see some action, my best opinion try a smaller agency bordering your choice agency. Ride along a couple times and you will make contacts with other agencies. By making those contacts you will have a better shot at a ride along with your choice agency.

Some depts have a policy that only LEO's or Cadets can do rides. You might ask what their policy is.
