I thought it would be cool to start a thread pertaining to poems paying hommage to Law Enforcement. Here is a one that I enjoy!!!

"DOES SHE KNOW"

THIS IS WRITTEN TO MY WIFE WHO I LOVE VERY MUCH, TO MAYBE SHED SOME LIGHT ON THE THINGS THAT ARE TOUGH….

I LAY IN BED ALL ALONE, WITHOUT MY WIFE SHIFT WORK YOU KNOW

I DON’T SEE HER MUCH SHE'S HOME ALONE

WE TALK A LOT ON THE PHONE

TALK ABOUT WORK? SHE ASKS

I’D RATHER NOT!

JUST ANOTHER DAY IS MY NORMAL RESPONSE

DEEP DOWN INSIDE I WANT TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH

ANOTHER FIGHT WITH A DRUNK, I ABOUT LOST A TOOTH

OR THE KID WHO CAME IN THAT SHOT A MAN IN THE HEAD

OR THE MAN WHO DID THINGS TO HIS DAUGHTER IN BED

OH YA, AND DON’T FORGET, THE ONE WHO SAID,

“WHEN I SEE YOU ON THE STREETS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY IS DEAD”

THERE ARE CERTAIN THINGS AT WORK THAT I SEE AND I DO

DOES SHE KNOW THAT HER LOVE IS WHAT HELPS ME GET THROUGH.

Here is another:

WHEN GOD MADE CORRECTION OFFICERS
When the Lord was creating CORRECTION OFFICERS, he was into his sixth day of overtime when an angel appeared and said, "You're doing a lot of fiddling around on this one".

And the Lord said, "Have you read the specs on this order?"

A CORRECTION OFFICER must always bear in mind that rehabilitation is based on self-respect. In the event of rebellious actions or disparaging remarks towards them by inmates they must always maintain a quite firm demeanor.

A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER has to be able to tolerate the ignorance of some, without losing hope.

A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER must also be prepared to cover a life-threatening situation, canvass the institution for witnesses, and testify the next day.

A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER has to be in top physical condition at all times, running on black coffee and half-eaten meals when it is necessary.

A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER has to have six pairs of hands.

The angel shook her head slowly and said, "Six pairs of hands... no way!"

"It's not the hands that are causing me problems," said the Lord, "it's the three pairs of eyes an Officer has to have."

"Is that on the standard model?" asked the angel.

The Lord nodded and said, "One pair that sees through a bulge in a pocket before the Officer asks, "May I see what's in there, sir?" (When the Officer already knows and wishes he'd taken that accounting job.) "the second pair, here in the side of his head for his fellow Officers safety and the third pair of eyes here in front that can look reassuringly at a bleeding victim and say, "You'll be all right, when the Officer knows it isn't so."

"Lord," said the angel, touching his sleeve, "rest and work on this tomorrow."

"I can't," said the Lord, "I already have a model that can talk a 250 pound inmate out of a rebellious intention without incident and feed a family of five on a civil service paycheck."

The angel circled the model of the CORRECTIONAL OFFICER very slowly, "Can it think?" the angel asked.

The Lord said "Can it think! A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER can recite departmental rules in its sleep; detain, investigate, search, and arrest a gang member on a tier in less time than it takes five learned judges to debate the legality of a traffic stop... and still it keeps its sense of humor. "This CORRECTIONAL OFFICER also has phenomenal personal control.

A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER can deal with crime scenes painted in hell, professionally watch over a child abuser not allowing emotions to stand in the way of helping a inmate better himself, comfort a fellow Officers family with a loss, and then read in the daily paper how the department and its Officers are not sensitive to the rights of criminals.

Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek of the CORRECTION OFFICER. "There's a leak," the angel pronounced. "I told you that you were trying to put too much into this model!" the angel exclaimed.

"That's not a leak," said the Lord, "it's a tear"

"What's the tear from?" asked the angel.

"It's for bottled-up emotions, for fallen comrades, for commitment to that tattered piece of cloth called the American flag, and for lady justice."

"You're a genius," said the angel.

The Lord looked somber and said "I didn't put that tear there."

The Duty

In the simple performance of duty, he pinned on a badge,

checked his gear with a practiced eye,

and kissed his loved ones good-bye.

In the simple performance of duty, he reported for work,

joked with his buddies at roll call,

and made his last trip down the squad room hall.

In the simple performance of duty, he headed for his beat,

doing his job protecting his home from crime,

he stopped cars, and checked buildings for the last time.

In the simple performance of duty, he answered the call,

to help the helpless, to find the lost,

no matter the danger or how great the cost.

In the simple performance of duty, he lay down his life,

for those in peril he tried to save,

our brave friend went to his grave.

In the simple performance of duty, we honor his deed,

as we carry him to rest in a flag draped casket,

long after the world has forgotten, we shall never forget.

Never judge or regret, what he did,

in the simple performance of duty.

Prayer For Police

Dear Lord,

Grant me the courage and speed to help those in need,
The insight to see right from wrong.
The patience and wisdom to take a deep breath,
And focus when short nights grow long.

Empathy and caring in lieu of a charge,
When I know I've walked in their shoes.
But should they turn from friend into foe,
The strength to ensure I don't loose.

Integrity, honesty, tenacity,
I pray you'll help me protect.
At the end of my shift take me home, O Lord,
To the family I've sworn to protect.

You don't remember me, do you...?

I was the one who unlocked your car after you accidentally
locked the keys and your baby up at the mall.

I was the one who gave you a ride to the gas station when
you ran out of gas on that back road.

I was the one who changed your tire because you couldn't
figure out how to work the stupid scissor jack.

I was the one who directed you safely through that busy
intersection when the traffic signals weren't working.

I was the one who gave you a jump-start after you left your
lights on.

You don't remember me, do you...?

I was the one who found the item that identified the guy
who raped your daughter.

I was the one who spent my days off in court to testify and
help convict the man who beat your son so badly.

I was the one who located your grandmother in the woods
that night when it was 22 degrees and she had wandered
away from the nursing home.

I was the one who loaned you the raincoat the night we
stood and watched your house burn.

I was the one who talked with you for two hours about your
son running away from home.

You don't remember me, do you...?

I was the one who held your hand, wiped the blood out of
you eyes, and calmed you down while the Fire Department
cut you out of what was left of your car.

I was the one who called you at 2 a.m. to come pick up your
16 year old daughter because she had been drinking too
much.

I was the one who knocked on your door at 4 a.m. to let you
know your 16 year old daughter would never be coming
home again.

I was the one who did CPR on your 3 year old after you
found him in the pool.

I was the one who helped deliver your new baby when you
didn't quite make it to the ER.

You don't remember me, do you...?

I was the one who got that snake out of your bathroom
around midnight.

I was the one who got my knees and elbows scraped up
fighting with the shoplifter with your carton of
cigarettes.

I was the one who took your son for a "ride-along" so he
could see what it was really like.

I was the one who gave you the right directions so you
wouldn't miss that business meeting.

I was the one who stopped you to let you know your right
rear tire was going flat.

You don't remember me, do you...?

I was the one who escorted your son's funeral procession
from the church to the cemetery and cried behind my
sunglasses because he was my friend, too.

I was the one watched over your place while you were on
vacation.

I was the one who worked for you on Christmas Day so you
could be off with your family.

I was the one who joked around with you after your truck
got hit by a train and you walked away without a scratch.

I was the one was able to talk your husband into going into
counseling with you.

You don't remember me, do you...?

I was the one who got shot when I pulled over a car for a
traffic violation and the driver turned out to be an
escaped convict who had sworn he would never go back to
prison.

Oh, by the way, my memorial service is at 2 p.m.

Will you remember me now?

I remember the day, you went away,
and a whole county cried,
I remember the day,
With a smile on your face
I saw you ,for the very last time.
Another decided what was to be your fate
And in a flurry of that moment,,,, you fell.....
But I see your grin, as they bring another Perp in
and lock them away in the jail !
Yea,,, they put your face ,,,right in the door !
Surrounded by flowers from those you adored
There is no way to miss it, its right on the wall
And your laugh echo's through the halls
They retired your car,
and your number too...
In our county you will always be a Hero,,,, unit.... 752......

“Prisoner’s Lullaby”

Don’t break the law, or else you go to jail

And if you act a fool, then imma decline your bail

Cryin hard in your cell, won’t do a thing

so you might as well throw away your wedding ring

You say that you wont ever do it again

but when you get released you’ll be with your stupid ass friends

So don’t waste your breath, just do your time

Your celly BUBBA’s sayin that you lookin hella fine

So if I were you, I’d start running fast

Or else he catches you and stick it in your A%^
