Don't worry nikkochey they have them for that specific reason. They also hide stuff in their mattresses. I've heard of inmates finding a way to tear away at the base of the walls and hide shanks in there and then use tooth paste and tp as a caulking mixture to hide the hole in the wall.

A female violated her parole by having a handgun, the family turned her in, they couldn't find the gun, she was taken into custody at one jail, then transported to another jail where it was found that she had a LOADED 38 up her vagina after she was uncuffed and in a holding cell. At the time of her violation, she was wearing a hot ORANGE tank top and shorts which had BITCH printed in various lettering sizes in black all over the material.
I was and am still speechless on this incident.

I didn't ask. She was also wearing a spit mask and had 8 of the biggest Deputies I have ever seen positioned around her when they bought her in.

Three incidents come to mind immediately: We had a trustee "suitcase" a carton of cigarettes (yes, a carton!), another trusty had flattened packets of tobacco in his mouth concealed by the palate plate of his upper dentures (he always had a whistle when he talked, but that day it seemed different.). And a female new intake had a small bottle of heroin and an uncapped syringe hidden in her "girl parts."

In the inside of caps... (like for shampoo) there is usually just enough space to hide a few rocks of crack.

I remember this. Could have turned out very bad for a lot of officers.

Inmates, why does anyone do this job when most of us are under paid, no respect, over worked and our supervisors don`t even listen to what we say. My advice to all of you is just use the DOC as a platform to get yourself a better job, prison is a place for prisoners, we risk our lives for nothing, I`m out and I hope you all follow.

no please tell us how you really feel .... good thing you hate your job that much that your looking to get out of the field because with an attitude like that you become a liablity , you sure don't seem to like being a CO .. I understand walmart is always looking for greeters pay isn't great but at least you can give out smiley face stickers... If you want to be appreciated and make money get out of the public service field..

From my little experience I think that offenders can get anything they want in the facilities. I know that in my facility (I have worked at three in my state) that they set up networks with the outside and get it through commercial supplies sent to industries. It is then stored and small amounts are inserted into their rectum to be smuggled into the facility for retail. I have even been called up to search for a firearm that had supposedly been sent in. No firearm was found in the industry areas but we found pounds of contraband. I guess I have to just smile and call this “job security”.

I've been working behind the walls since 1997. First in a state DOC facility and now for the Sheriff's Dept. in a county facility.....I love my job and wouldn't trade it for anything.....I agree that corrections isn't for everyone and am glad you figured that out before you got yourself or one of your fellow officers hurt. I agree with Ohcop....its time to move on......as for being underpaid, where I live the DOC makes more than the locals.....and I left DOC and went to county because right now, the Sheriff's department correctional officers are the highest paid LEO's in the county...(plus I can get other outside details with the SD that I couldn't get with the DOC)...so good luck on your quest for cash.....

I have never looked down on my position as a Certified Corrections Officer. I take alot of pride in my integrity and work ethics. I am not overworked or underpaid. I appreciate and respect the laws of my state and our nation. I appreciate my paycheck and benefits. Law Enforcement and Corrections are not for anybody. You don't have to love it, but it you hate it, by all means....leave it. Someone else will appreciate your job.

Good advise, BrooklynSergeant!
I remember finding 6 raw half chickens under a full sized inmates breasts one day while shaking down in the central dining area in my earlier years. We no longer have stoves and refrigerators for inmates to cook and cool things on housing units. It caused alot of problems, Now, it's just commissary or chow hall. Work smarter not harder.

I never said I hated or disliked my job. If I did, I would not have held it for twenty years. I wouldn't trade this job in for a trillion dollars. It's best that you recognize the job isn't for you (for whatever reason) and you bail out now...it's better than getting yourself into a situation where you will be looking for someone to bail you out. I respect those that admit they can't do it and move on. However, you have to admit, iit can be freakin' hilarious when inmates get really creative in trying to hide things in areas that they thinkwould not be searched-ever. An inmate, on his way out, graced me with info because, he said, I was a "fair and decent officer," high-praise from an inmate. He advised me the uncircumcised trusties were "sleeving" crack and smuggling it into the jail. When I passed this on the the male officers, thier reaction was pretty animated. Anaother on of those things that make you go Hmmmm. Mick .

You'd be surprised where and what they hide. The most unbelievable would be a female at intake hid a covassia bottle up in her plumbing. As far as in the facility on the boxers that we give there happens to be a little pocket on the front opening. We found some weed there on a fellow the other day. Now as far as the housing unit some have hidden shanks in the light fixtures about the sink. Oh, one I almost forgot always check to see if the newbies in booking are wearing wigs. Male and female, We caught a fellow still having a wig in his possession when he got to the floor. So Be sure to check ALL places.

Between every two cells there is a plumbing chase with a door. They would make a string from clothing or the mattress, tie to the shank or other contaband and hide it in the closet. They would leave just enough of the string so they could grasp it when needed. Real hard to see if you are not paying attention.

I have worked in a jail. Not a prison but the jail that i work in houses anywhere between 1700 and 2300 inmates depends on the season. It seemed like the summers are when we get really packed. The ac breaks for a week every summer and it gets so hot and muggy that the floors sweat. Anyway we were having issues with visitors brining in tobacco and other smokable substances in the clothing they were dropping off. They would sew them into the waistbands or collars of the tshirts. Yes we can contribute this to laxed security but the jail can have a lot of visitors and the packages of clothing items are suppose to be sealed.

If your County jail or Prison allows offenders to where tennis shoes instead of issued slip on shoes, check the bottoms because sometimes offender cut the sole out of the shoe and hide contraband in them. Another place where offenders hide things is in the tongue of the shoe. Also the shower drainage in their cell block or pod. Offenders will take the grate out of the floor and hide contraband in the pipe. Air vents, light fixtures, book binders. As far as commissary goes, check anything that isn't clear. Also, inside the elastic bands of underwear can conceal different items. Under dayroom tables can be a palce where offenders hide contraband. They will use parts of their am/fm radios as a magnet. If your jail/prison doors still slide open check the inside of the door before you exit the cell. Hope some of this helps but it really doesn't begin to shed light on exactly where offenders hide cntraband. Remember these people have 24 hours a day to figure out good hiding places. Be careful guys and girls.
