Okay, guys, I'm new here. I'm a 38 year old woman who is almost childfree now. I've dont my time and they're about raised. (kids). My first love was police security, secret service and etc...you could only imagine. Anyway, I stay in shape, have a couple of years in Brazilian Jiujitsu, two years boxing (competed), etc...I've taken up guns and will have my CHL by next month, but I compete in three gun tactical matches and pistol tournaments now. Is it too late for me? I see that the BOP's cut off is 36. Does that mean it's over for me? What else is out there? I'd love to do the bounty hunting thing....or personal protection...but I need a finger to point at least ONE direction! Any advice?

Yes, unfortunately the cutoff for the feds has passed you. However, the rest of the world is still your oyster. There are many police agencies in all levels (state, county, municipalities and private sector) that may be just what you're looking for. How is your formal education level? Many agencies today require 2 or 4 yr degrees. And anything beyond that will just make you that much more "marketable".

When you get a moment, take a look at this page:
http://policelink.monster.com/careers

The information here will give you an idea of what's out there and what the employers are looking for. The job of your dreams may be in your very back yard.

Good luck!

Thank you so much, Rob. I have just signed up to finish my Criminal Justice two year degree. Was also wondering about loss prevention/security management? I have about two-three more semesters after this one to go to finish up my bachelor's degree. Wouldn't my background in nursing be helpful too? I've been a nurse, LVN, for about thirteen years now. I appreciate any more information you can think of.

It's never to late. I went through our local academy for Florida Standards at the age of 44 and am current a Deputy, and I was the third oldest in class. I keep and article about a retiree at the age of 69 thant webt through training and is now a Deputy in Lee County, Florida. So never feel it's to late and good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Crippers, get on it girl!!! And don't take NO for an answer. Providing that your background isn't dope filled, there are lots of agencies that would happily accept you. It is hard to find a young person with the degree you have, a degree in life experience. Good luck!!! And, when you do make itl, be damn careful.

The Border Patrol hires up to 40 years old now.

Go to search and enter Border Patrol Agent, or go to search series and enter 1896.

Don't feel that your age is an issue. I went to the academy with a man that was 49 and he almost won the physical fitness competition out of about 40 of us. As most have said before, most agencies stop around 45 years old, some more.

Regretfully many agencies today do have an age cut off. But, there are many out there that do not. Plus, from what it sounds like, you may be well served to go in person and talk to someone at the agency of your choice. If they see you are "young for your age" then you never know what will happen. I started in Law Enforcement at the age of 22... but, it sounds to me like you are in much better shape than I am today at 33. Good luck in your search! I think if you have the heart and mind for this work you will be a good addition to our ranks!

Unfortunately for you Rob is right. Feds are out of the picture for ya. But there are countless local and state agencies that if they do have a cut off is uaually around 45 with no experience. You should definitely call around to the agencies that apeal to you and see what their recruiting dept. says.
