Description:

The T21 Series is one of our more popular surveillance mics. Due to its simple wiring set up, the T21 is very easy to wear and conceal. The small lapel mic can substitute the more bulky speaker mics. The ability to hide the cord in one's shirt or uniform makes the unit less of a liability during any kind of altercation. The clear tube also gives the earpiece a more subtle look giving users the advantage during surveillance. The T21 is also made with Kevlar reinforced cabling and rugged strain relief. All these features combined with ARC's 1 year warranty makes the T21 ideal for Law Enforcement.

I have been wearing an earpiece for almost seven years. In my opinion, they should be mandatory for every officer for communications security and the ability to hear transmissions through a lot of background noise. I have worn a listen only earpiece from Otto Engineering and a two-wire surveillance kit for Earhugger Safety. Both were alright, but lacked on durability. The Earhugger was a little heavy on wires (I felt like Dynamo from The Running Man) and I had some electronics and durability issues, so after breaking a piece on the Earhugger's connector, I purchased the Astra T21 at the Enforcement Expo in Cleveland.

I put it to work the first night and have found since that it is rugged, with cable retainers/stress relievers; Kevlar reinforced wiring and field replaceable parts in case of trouble. The system comes with an open ear insert that does not obstruct you from hearing ambient sounds, as well as, a rubber ear insert for high noise environments. It also comes with both clear and black acoustic tubes and corresponding over-the-ear tube guides (which I have found no need to use). It has two different PTT buttons, one on the lapel mike, which is small and concealable, and the other on the molded connector for my Motorola HT1000 radio. You can also use the PTT on the radio and the radio microphone to make transmissions if there is a problem with the lapel mic. I have had no problems with this system and found it superior to the Earhugger two-wire version.

Have used this wire mic for three years. Works great. Some officers have had problems with shorts in the wire, but the company really stands behind their products.

There are a lot of obvious advantages to tactical mics in general , but this one has additional advantages. For one, your primary means of communication with dispatch (e.g., bulky shoulder mic) doesn't go flying off your shoulder in a hands-on situation. Also, the piece that connects directly into your radio has an additional push button which is a lot easier to access if you're chasing a suspect on foot. You just push down near the side of your radio and begin transmitting pertinent info. The earpiece isn't the standard round shaped ear piece which can be uncomfortable to the ear. It comes with an earpiece which fits to the inside of your ear. I've used this the entire time I've been on the street and its come in very handy in a myriad of ways. Highly recommended!

With most departments going to plain talk on the radios Sometimes you do not want others to hear what is being said

I bought this system this summer. I'm glad I did. This system is comfortable, it allows you to sneak up on someone you are pursuing without your radio giving away your location, and it helps to block out all enivornmental noise when listening to radio traffic or calls for you. All in all it was expensive, but given the abuse I have put it through and the fact that it is still and great shape and effective, this is a winner in my book.
