| Description: | For LAPD homicide cop Harry Bosch — hero, maverick, nighthawk — the body in the drainpipe at Mulholland dam is more than another anonymous statistic. This one is personal. The dead man, Billy Meadows, was a fellow Vietnam "tunnel rat" who fought side by side with him in a nightmare underground war that brought them to the depths of hell. Now, Bosch is about to relive the horrors of Nam. From a dangerous maze of blind alleys to a daring criminal heist beneath the city to the tortuous link that must be uncovered, his survival instincts will once again be tested to their limit. Joining with an enigmatic female FBI agent, pitted against enemies within his own department, Bosch must make the agonizing choice between justice and vengeance, as he tracks down a killer whose true face will shock him. The Black Echo won the Edgar Award for Best First Mystery Novel awarded by the Mystery Writers of America. |

This is the first in an excellent series of novels featuring LAPD Detective Harry Bosch. I recommend the entire collection to anyone who enjoys mysteries and police fiction.

Connelly has written a book that is tough to put down. From the first page to the last this book keeps your interest and keeps you guessing. Highly recommended!

This book was one of the best I've read. I've read a couple hundred novels and this book comes to mind when I am asked about my favorites.

Connelly definately has a few friends in the LE comunity. His books would be better if he lost his pro-lawyer prose

Michael Connelly is one of the few authors that I read that keeps you spellbound from cover to cover. He has made Harry Bosch the type of cop you would like to be.

I have read pretty much every book that Michael Connelly has written. He is fantastic police writer! Harry Bosch is the kind of cop that every cop wants to be like, but are not allowed to be! Harry's tenacity and determination in solving homicides is something to be admired, even if he bends (and sometimes breaks) the rules to get justice.
