| Description: | From the founding of the city during the Land Run of 1889 to the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, this book reveals the inside story of the Oklahoma City Police and its pursuit of justice in the city where urban America met the "Wild West." These are the real stories; the heroes and antiheroes, the shining glories of duty, honor and courage as well as the occasional warts of corruption and misconduct; such as gunfights, fist fights, lynching and race riots. Includes listing of officers and recognition of officers killed in the line of duty. This book is a must read for anyone interested in the Wild West or in America's law enforcement history. A history of the Oklahoma City Police Department, from the Land Run in 1889 to modern day. The author, Ron Owens, is a retired Captain from the OCPD. He has also written Oklahoma Heroes, a chronicle of peace officers killed in the line of duty in the State of Oklahoma.

I read this book a year ago after checking it out from the library. I recently bought it and am reading it a second time.
Excellently written and keeps me interested from the Land Run right to the tragedy of April 19,1995.

An outstanding book and an "all read". I have lived in Oklahoma City all my life, been on the department for 22 years and worked the Oklahoma City Bombing. But this book taught me a lot of things about my city, my department and our state's tragedy that I did not know. I highly recommend it for anyone.
