One of the strudiest weapons ever made. It can fire underwater with the barrel bent, with mud in the action. Just doesn't have the accuracy at any real distance. but out to 100 yards it works just fine.

for its price its an extreamly durable rifle. with practice it is just as acurate as the m4 carbine, or m16. rounds are cheaper, and are also harder hitting. they have so many different versions that you can get to customize them. also available in the .223 caliber.

You can run this rifle over and beat it against something and it'll still spit rounds out like a demon. The 7.62 kicks like a mule and will tear through cinderblocks, car doors, and the like. However, it's notoriously bad in the accuracy department; this seems to be used by those with a "spray and pray" mentality. In the hands of a competant user, however, this is a scary piece.

Every one I met using this rifle was never on "our side" yeah its great and it shoots for ever with out stoping but for LEO use it looks bad to the public, nice to use on a day off for some fun trigger time but it would never make it into my car as a patrol rifle, I'd rather have a m4 or m1a

As just a firearm this weapon is pretty great, but the stigma is too negative to use it for anything other than target or recreation. Plus a 7.62 would be too big to use in many situations.

SHOTGUNS FOREVER!!!!! Nothing says loving like an ounce of hot love or 00 buck. I carry an 870 and an M4 in my patrol with me so I think I have enough firepower should the need arise, but..... I just got an AK not too long ago for a plnker due to the cost of .223 ammo jumping like no other. So far I really like the gun. I have hit everything I've shot at so far. I agree with the masses that this is NOT for the patrol officer. I think the last thing I want is to look like a terrorist when at a gun call and be mistaken for the active shooter. These guns just get a bad rap from their history and the movies/media. The gun I got is a yugo and is in great condition. A buddy has a Mak-90 that, from the looks of it and what he tells me, he doesnt clean it very often nor has he had a malfunction with it. I keep my weapons clean but I also use them very hard, so I like a weapon that will fire each and every time no matter what, and so far I think the AK fits the bill here.

Okay, only two reasons I gave this weapon four stars. One, I hate the sights, and two its pretty heavy. Accuracy is actually pretty damned good if you put an optical sight and get one of the new production models that doesn't use a forged receiver. The reason the AK was so bad at range was because as it fired, the receiver torqued. All the newer models have rectified this. I recently fired an AK-100 series rifle (104 I think). It was pretty damned accurate and I would feel more comfortable behind the 7.62 round than I would behind the 5.56 round.

This rifle is a classic that all fighters love and one that has a design that permits it to be employed in the worst of conditions and still funtion reliably. I am a big fan of the US-produced versions put out by Arsenal and certain models made by Century Arms, most notably their Yugo versions with the extra beefy front trunion making them arguabilly indestructible compared to other domestically/foreign produced variants.

I've had my AK-47 for about 5 years. I have shot 1000's of rounds without one problem. It's not very accurate at long distances, but up to 150 yards I've never had problems hitting my target with the factory iron sights. Until my department issues me one of our surplus M16's, my AK-47 is staying in my patrol unit along with my 75 rd. drum magazine.

I was always an AR man, but happened upon a good deal on a Norinco AK last year so I bought it to play with. It has without a doubt impressed me greatly. This weapon requires little to no maintenance. You can abuse the weapon, not clean it, and it will perform the same way every single time. I would imagine this is why it has been used on almost every continent on the earth and is the most produced , most battle tested weapon ever made. I would highly recommend owning one especially for a patrol rifle. It is a good feeling knowing that each and every time you put a round in the chamber and pull the trigger, it will work. No mater what condition the weapon is in.

Ok, I have heard a lot of officers frown on having an AK in the car, but I carry one. They say its wrong because it a common weapon used to kill our troops and as well as officers. I think that is all the more reason to have one! No one wants to be in a shooting situation, but if you gotta be there, have something that is going to get the job done. These are easy to use, load and everything else. The kick is light and they are a pretty dead on shot. Even if you don't want to have one for police purpose, get one just to mess with. They are a blast to shoot.

Many are the myths of the AK. Sorry, "Dallas", but the AK is not "recoil-operated". Recoil-operated firearms all share the charcteristic that barrel and breech remain locked together and travel rearward together upon firing until unlocked by toggle, cam or other device. Although there are some exceptions, (notably, the AR tribe of weapons), most gas-operated firearms utilize a piston and a port machined at an angle through one wall of the barrel to facilitate bleed-off of gas under high pressure which is then conveyed rearward to operate an unlocking device which the enables the weapon to cycle. The M-1 Garand, AK-47, M-14, BAR, and M-1 Carbine are all examples of this operating system. In general, firearms with a ported barrel from which gas is conducted to move a piston for the purpose of unlocking the breech from the barrel are sai to be gas-operated. The AK family of weapons has proven itself more than adequate for the purposes for which were developed.

I give this product five stars cause I shot one for the first time a couple of weeks ago. At a hundred yards with just the iron sights I was hitting paper. After the 3rd round I got used to the tigger pull and everything landed in the inner ring. This weapon is idiot proof. You gotta give respect to the deadliest ever made even 60 years after it was produced.

Simple, ease of use and cheap ammo. I've stress tested mine myself, and yea, they eat anything, snow, mud, ice, you name it. I take this with me when I hike in the back country as I wouldn't mind if it fell dropped in water and so on...affordability can't be beat and fire power is great. However if I had to cut and run with this or an AR, it would be my AR. AK's were designed to shoot 300 yards and in, accurately. Where as my AR I can hit accurately to 500 + yards. This round is stronger but has a faster drop rate than the .223 carrying more ammo is heavy too.

Needed to respond, it makes me sad when 'Professionals' are reviewing a weapons platform poorly not due to the weapon itself, but on who carried it, as professionals we are not here for out political views.

As many have probably said Already, I've never met a gas operated AK-47, but as an avid user of this weapon i have to say, if you know what your doing this is a reliable combat weapon with good accuracy and more then enough 'Knock Down' power to handle nearly any situation you find yourself in.

The 'Pray and Spray' idea came mostly from the Media and the Middle East where there training is far below par for our own, it's an easy weapon to understand and to easy to teach to those who you have trouble communicating with.

In the hands of a professional this is a superb system, in the hands of an ill trained bumpkin it is 'Usable' in the hands of a fanatic it is a terror.

Any rifle round is potentially armor piercing, the 7.62 x39 is not an "armor piercing round" any more than a .308 is. The AK is an outstanding weapon, while not known for its accuracy, it shoots a powerful round, and the weapon itself, with its rugged design, can take a real beating and still keep working. The AK-47 is so popular for a reason, and I'm glad to own such a fine weapon.

I own the Yugoslavian AK. It is accurate, reliable, powerful. If you were in combat in brush, timber, jungle, or swamps where shots were 100 yards and less, this is the gun to have. Simple, durable, and easy to take down and clean. Its also a compact weapon and can be stowed in boats, vehicles, or whatever. I would not want it in a desert environment, where shots are 100 yards out to 1000.

Assault rifles by definition fire an intermediate cartridge. Accuracy on full auto leaves alot to be desired. However for a gun designed in 1947 and with the lose tolerances designed to ensure it's reliability, it's earned it's reputation for reliability and ease of maintenance. It's just not that ergonomically pleasing as far as the selector/safety goes.

Most people here are on the right track when it comes to rating this gun, others overly naive. And Fyi, it is gas operated. If war struck out here in the states i would bear nothing but this reliable smooth shooting wonder (as long as my reserve ammo is prevalent). And dont get too many ideas from jacki brown, athough tougher to handle @ full auto its every bit as accurate as a .223. There are exceptions though as to who manufactures this gun when it comes to shooting enjoyability(such that of the romainian with its trigger slap). Dont know how many cases of ammo ive been through but ive yet to have anything fail (unlike my ar wich ive had to replace 2 bolts in roughly the same duration). By far the best assult rifle out there for any ol shmo! Just replace the crappy short wood stock with the composite egyptian maadi and Booyaow, youve got yourself a kick ass rifel.

Times get tough = times get AK-47.
My buddy picked one up from the local gun shop for 400 bucks. It was gun of the week. I have yet to fire this weapon, but from handling it - I think God sent a piece of Heaven to me. I actually like to have a heavier weapon then most people do. It is heavier than the AR I shot, but I like that more. Converting these weapons to full auto is very easy, not that you should or anything, but that is a possibility. You can shoot these bad boys all day, degrease them, throw them in the mud, soak em in water, and they still fire all day long great. much like the Springfield XD, and the Beretta M9 (92) pistols with reliability.

Although it carries a a bad reputation because of some of the organizations who have familiarized themselves with it, this gun is durable, dependable, inexpensive, and fairly accurate up to 200 yards. Can't beat it.

Despite what others may think I prefer this over my M4, the rounds are harder hitting and this can be just as accurate as a M4 in the right hands with the right modifications. The fact that it was made by Russians shouldn't matter, dependable and hard hitting is what I look for in a weapon, the AK has that and more it might not be a room clearing weapon by design but through improvision, adaptation and overcoming that you have the best assault rifle made to date as far as I'm concerned.

Awesome weapon. I have an AK with a Century Arms bullpup conversion and I absolutely love it.

It is a highly effective weapon If one keeps in mind its rather limited effective range. The older SKS is more accurate, but cannot even approach the AK-47's firepower. Battle-proven worldwide - its reputation as a jungle "mud gun" and a desert "sand gun" is well-deserved. What some shooters don't realize is that is was origionally designed as a "snow gun" to function well in the cold regions of Eastern Europe and Asia-including Siberia. With proper maintenance, it performs very well in Artic and sub-Artic regions.

Ok guys I know that some frown on the ak-47 or 74. The weapon has earned its bragging rights . over 65 years of service . Reliable reliable reliable. Iron sights on it suck , but they are accurate if you have optics . I own both ar's and ak's. The ar is more modular in design and is more adapatable. however if I could have one and only one of these, I would choose the ak , diirty , rusty sandy , they always shoot , no such thing as a FTF . OR MAG ISSUE .

These are easy to take apart and put back together. They eat whatever you geed it with no problems and I have yet to have a malfunction with mine. And just plain fun to shoot.
