Excellent handling, compact enough for defense or assault

I purchased this shotgun for personal use and found it to be pretty hard hitting without a decent stock. I removed the original pistol grip and added an ATI top folding stock to it which caused plenty of pain when shooting the lightest of target loads. I have just replaced that with a Knoxx SpecOps telescoping stock that should reduce felt recoil by over 50%. A good shotgun for home defense and target shooting, but I much prefer the semi-auto Benellis.

I've carried mine for 5 years now. Switched out the stock for a telescoping one, and it just looks plain mean. Used mossberg for hunting since I was a kid, great gun for the price.

I have used these a few times maybe not this exact one, but a mossberg 500. I used it for hunting and trap shooting

Great firearm. My favorite thing about the gun is the 8 shot capacity.

Again I use this weapon on duty and in 3 gun matches. It is unstoppable. Dirt and grime, water, snow nothing effects it.

Easy to operate, also easy to take down and clean. Takes a licking, but keeps on ticking.

My aim has to be lower with the Mossberg compared to the Remmington 870, but it fires great, and gets the job done. I would buy one for my personal use.

The Benelli or Remington is the way to go. They both have the quality and reliability that the 500 doesn't have.

I think Im the last guy on my Department to still carry a shotgun as a primary long gun. This weapon is why. Accuracy, reliability, and a variey of ammo for different purposes make it hard to beat. Ive even out shot some of the guys with M4s out to 100 yards with slugs. (of course I actually train).

I used this for home defense before I qualified to use it on patrol. I feel it is great. I have the bull pup version and I love mine.

Great shotgun! I have found it to be accurate, and with low recoil. I've been at the range many times and emptied the tube as fast as I could and would still hit the same spot 5 times in a row. My wife uses one for home defense when I'm deployed!

I really like Mossberg, very accurate and dependable. Been hunting with them since I was a kid, and carrying it on patrol and warrants as a cop. I would buy nothing else.

The Mossberg 500 Persuader is the first shotgun I have ever owned, and ever carried on duty. I bought mine fully decked out- pistol grip, picatinny forestock w/ foldable handle & dedicated light, 18" with 8-shot tube. Low muzzle travel, low recoil, awesome groupings out to 50yds (with 00). My Persuader is my trusted partner on and off the streets.

Solid, but not as good as the old Remington. I do not like the collapsible stock, and it feels more flimsy. I also hate the post sight.

Awesome shotgun! Tough as heck! True, the safety and the trigger guard are plastic, but they're easily replaced with steel parts.

This is a great firearm that I personally prefer to the 870.
It's strong and reliable, has an ambidextrious safety and a good price.
    I suggest a speed-feed stock to carry on-board ammo.

GREAT SHOTGUN AND IN MY OPINION MORE REALIBLE THAN THE REM 87O. I REPLACED THE OUT OF THE BOX STOCK WITH A YOUTH STOCK, MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD IN HANDLING.
I ALSO HAVE A MAVERICK 88 MADE BY MOSSBERG, FOR HOME DEFENSE. SAME GUN AND MOST PARTS INTERCHANGE INCLUDING THE BARREL.

I liked a couple of features on the Mossberg. One was the weight and the other was the slide release location, and I also liked the magazine feed. What I did not like and is the reason I will not purchase a Mossberg is the barrel fit. I litterally had it move and that was enough to turn me away.

Great shotgun! Mine came with the pistol grip and a heatshield. I added the ATI Tactical stock, 5 Shell Holder, Surefire flashlight, and this thing looks pissed! It does pack a nice kick but I wouldn't want anything less from a 12 gauge. Easy to maintain and great for home defense/on the job.

The pictured model actually has a six-round capacity, as does mine. I paid $350 for mine, and do not regret a penny of it. This may not be your 870, but don’t underestimate this gun’s reliability. These shotguns stand up to prolonged service with Marine security detachments. (By the way, don’t mess with a Marine with an M500.)

I have one w/tactical light, side saddle for 5 mre rounds, and five more on the butt. 6in the tube plus one. Don't forget the 3 inch slugs to pack the punch and keep ya going home at the end of the shift.

I have had several of these both for work and for teaching. Good all a round shotgun. Quick on point and great for home defense. There are more expensive and fancier shotguns out there and they may even be better. But what comes out the business end is still about the same and as long as it goes on target every time I am verry happy. I have mine set up with a sidesaddle and swift sling and wouln't trade it.
