Most of the chargers in the Utah valley were donated to the forces.I think its pretty sweet. Personally I would go for a Evo or STI.

This vehicle is awesome, I have test drove the charger with a the v8 magnum engine. It is super fast. I would love to have this patrol car if I didn't work in a rural area now.

Does the Impala have a police package? Just wondering as I really don't know. I can compare the CV to the Dodge Charger and basically there is no contest. The Charger is faster, quicker, handles better, and is simply a much better patrol unit right now. Ford is not going to want to let go of the lucrative Police market so look for them to redesign the CV or come out with something else in a PP. You can also take the Ford Mustang and the Chevy Camaro and scrap them as again, they are not even close to the Charger in any category. Chevy used to have a great pp in the Nova's back around 1980 and they were wicked fast. Understand that the Charger can easily be way too much vehicle for the cop so he needs to understand his limits. We do not want to bury any more Officers because they are driving too fast. The standard engine is fine for most cities etc and the Hemi's are hot and fast and can easily be too much for the Officers. If anyone gets and SRT8 with the 6.1 Hemi in it, only your very top Officers should even be allowed to sit in it! LOL Way too much car for most people.

My friends that drive them enjoy them alot. Comes in handy when they have to go from one end of the county to the other.

to be quite honest with you i think this is a bad idea.. or at least i think only highway patrol and the vets should be allowed to drive these "FAST" patrol vehicles, we lost alot of policeman in the past few year cause they were cocky and didnt relize it was time to abandone the chase, maybe out in the more open areas but here in jersey there or sum things you just got to accept as a police officer and its that there are some fast cars that dont stop and get away and its not worth loosing your life for a 160mph chase with a hooked up subaru or a 8 second bike

There's a PD just south of me that has switched to Chargers, and it looks like a very formidable tool in the hands of the law..fast, powerful engine, and that front grill just looks grouchy! To answer you question, Robo, the Impala *does* have a police package..the Air Force used them for base Secuity Forces when I was in, and the (WI) Kenosha PD uses the 2007 Impala and the officers reportedly prefer them to the more flashy Charger

I've been driving a dodge for a year now and I wouldnt trade for anything...been to 142 with lots left over. Lots of knee room and although it doent look it, there is plenty of room in the back even with a cage.

I must say they are fast. I live in a Metro area of 5 major cities and about 20 small towns and the 1st once to get them was a small town of 8 officers they managed to rack 2 of them in one day in the police parking lot. One of the officers excuse was the car is faster then the fords we had for the lest 10 years.

So long as the balls-out chasing goes on where space allows - i.e. highway, then YES, YES, YES. The faster, the better.

I agree with upgrading the police vehicles, but I think there needs to be some sort of rule of thumb to say what can be a LE Vehicle (IE. only American made). As Much as I support Law Enforcement, I do not support speed limits.

I think having the latest cars is a good thing you have warranties better cars to chase and pursue your duties as an officer and also you tend 2 get more respect when your patrol car doesn't look like a pos. Overall I think its a good thing if your dept. has the money

Chargers are great for police chases, because if you notice most people are driving faster cars. We had a chase here in Escalon, CA. where a charger hit a parked patrol car and took off. Back up units could not keep up with the guy. Because I had a friend who was a stringer, we used my Camaro to follow. We passed up Escalon's '99 CV's with no problem but I was redlining and the guy kept on going. Faster cars mean we as LE's or future LE's in my case can take the guy down sooner. As far as a Civic goes, a PP would cause more problems than it is worth. Leave the police packages for AMERICAN MUSCLE!!! That would be the 'Stang, Camaro and Chargers. Not imports.

60 officers died in car crashes in 2007; is faster really better. the old reliable crown vic does the trick. But i wouldn't mind seeing a mustang AV8R on the road

I will agree with all of you. Only thoes Officers who can controll the power should have the power. On that note I think that their should be a test that officers should have to take to see witch car is right for them. On the end of things for the speed I feel that Police need better and faster cars for thes that can handle it. I know some people around Indianapolis that have dropped 50 pluss thousand in their sports cars and runningunder 10 sec quarter milles. In everything from 4 cylenders to V 12s. Police are just being kept running behind hard core racers.

I BELIEVE THE DODGE CHARGERS ARE THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD, THEY ARE ALMOST AGAIN AS FAST AS THE CROWN VICS AND HANDLE BETTER TO MY SATISFACTION.THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE WITH THEM IS THE HESITATION WHEN SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE AND TAKING OFF OR VISE VERSA OTHER THAN THAT THE CAR IS BY FAR THE BEST OF THE TWO IN MY OPINON.

Hmmm, I could imagine "Fast Patrol Cars" as the the Dodge Viper, Ford Mustang, and Dodge Charger, but where do the "Law Enforcement Agencies" come up with a Honda Civic? Weird.

The PD in my city bought a couple of the Chargers back when they had first came out on the market. They have had nothing but problems out of these units since they were bought. The units are either overheating or problems with the breaks causing the car to almost shake you off the road if you use them at speeds any faster than 40mph. It's not a maintenance problem cause even after having the breaks and rotors worked on it still has exact same problem....Yes being faster is better, aids in many aspects of this job but if you can't do it safely then whats the point?
