This classic text from the Caliber Press is a must read by anyone who works in the street. Originally published in the 1970's many of the tactics in this text are still sound today. More importantly the mental preparation and survival mindset developed in this book are timeless. Gritty and true to life.

All the Street Survival books are wonderful and full of useful info.
If you ever have a chance to attend in person a Street Survival course it is well worth your time and energy.

TONS OF INSIGHT IN THIS BOOK!

The first in a series of three books that lays the foundation for survival on the street. Should be required reading in every academy across the nation.

While Street Survival is an older book, the information contained in it is timeless. Clothing styles and what’s in and hip may change, but as we well know a crook is a crook is a crook. These are basic procedures that will stand the test of time, because they are sound and true. I learned quite a bit from this book and pick it up again every five years to cover it again and glean more from its pages. I highly recommend this book to both old and new officers.

An absolute must for everyone working the streets, don't wait, get it now, it just might save your life. This was our "Bible" when teaching recruits at the Academy.

Good book a little outdated but it sure reminds you to be mindful of the basics.

I found Street Survival Tactics for Armed Encounters to be an extremely beneficial tool to add to my utility belt. I have often thought about the practical information and techniques this text offers. Originally given to me by a retired Montgomery Alabama police officer in 1994, I have referenced this book throughout my career in law enforcement. Despite your duties, this text offers you a plethora of well founded advice to keep you and your partner(s) safe. Regardless whether you are thinking about getting into law enforcement or are a well seasoned officer or agent Street Survival Tactics for Armed Encounters can prevent you from loosing your edge to every peace officer’s worst enemy – complacency.

This book is fantastic. Don't just borrow it, buy your own. Then go back through it every once in a while to keep your edge. Very valuable for reference and refresher.

Ok, I'm a little biased since I work for Calibre Press, but I read this book over 20 years ago, long before I became a trainer and an author. I still turn to it regularly to research a specific tactic or just to remind of my mission to continue to be a %5-er. This is a "must have" book for anyone in law enforcement, from patrol to dispatch to supervision.

great book to read

This was the first book I read as a police explorer back in the early 70's and it made me realize that we took things for granted back then. This book was an eye opener for me and I still refer it to friends today.

While definately an older book (ignore fact that most of the police look like 70's porn stars), but chock full of very good advice. The book is also filled with references to real situations of what NOT to do - which helps cement correct tactics in your mind. Seems to have weathered the test of time. Buy it!

The photos are dated but the survival information is still first rate. This is a MUST READ for anyone who straps on a gun, and pins on a badge!

I first bought this book, in the early 80's. It was instrumental in our department changing to semi-autos, from .38 spl revolvers. I only wish it had been able to convince the powers that be, to choose a .45, rather than the 9mm. But, this book is a must read, and must have, in your personal library. I made the mistake of loaning mine out to a fellow who shortly later left our department, and moved out of the area. I never saw that book again. I recently purchased a couple of used copies, and gave one to my youngest son, who is now considering a foray into Law Enforcement. It will make you think, and will change your WAY of thinking, about dealing with the public, in ways that are necessary, in today's society

Had this book and passed it on - great one - great author!

I bought and read Street Survival in my rookie year of 1983. Over the years, with al the other Officer Safety books that have been written and published, Street Survival is still the benchmark. I have all three books in the series now.
