AMAZING book. Has been the basis for many TV shows -- most notably "The Wire." Really is a must read.

This book was just great. It is the type of book you can not put down until your done. The TV show Homicide, Life on the street was one of the best cop shows ever.

Great book! I did a ride-along with the detectives written about in this book. They are truly my heroes. I remained a friend of Det. Donald Waltemeyer and we lost contact for a few years. I've since learned that he died of cancer. I have my hard-back edition autographed by Mr. Simon and the "characters" he wrote about. I will never part with it! BLH

Excellent book. Pretty detailed on the workings of a homicide investigation. Great group of characters to choose from.

What can I say about this book? I read this book for the first time when I was still a teenager considering becoming a police officer. This book is one of the resons that I joined the Baltimore Police Department, it was my pleasure to work for a short while with one of the detectives featured in the book before he passed away from cancer. I have also worked with Agent Gene Cassidy who is the Western officer that was shot in the head and who's case is covered in the book. He is my inspiration and now teaches law at the police academy as well as teaching critical incident survival.

This book was just released in the UK. Only bought it yesterday and I can tell its going to be a damn good read!
