The S&W Model 586, is a six shot double action revolver chambered for the .357 Magnum cartridge. It was produced from blued carbon steel and had adjustable sights. This L-framed revolver was created to answer concerns from both the K-framed and N-framed firearms. The primary concerns with these designs, which were addressed with the L-frames, were the K’s inadequate frame design when constantly firing the forceful .357 Magnum round, and, the N’s uncomfortable and bulky size. The L-frames were very calculated designs in that they were produced to be robust enough to endure constant firing with the .357 Magnum round, and also comfortable enough for continuous carrying. The Model 586 has seen enormous success in the US and other nations as an efficient combat, self-defense, hunting and sportsmen revolver.
