So...the concept is no longer new. It seems like everyone is making a pocket pistol, so it was no surprise to me that Smith&Wesson would put one out on the market as well. Initially, I thought...it was good looking, looked solid, and I liked the inclusion of the laser, but I looked at the difference in price between it and the Kel-tec P-3AT, and the Ruger LCP, and actually ended up buying the Kel-tec (my second P-3AT, I sold the first a while back).
Then one day, I came into work and my Deputy Chief had a new toy to show me...his new Bodyguard 380. Literally, I held it in my hand and decided that I wanted one. Why? Lots of reasons.
Right off the bat, I noticed that this badboy had vastly improved ergonomics (at least for my hand). Additionally, I liked the inclusion of REAL sights, and all of the external controls that you would expect on a standard-sized firearm (you can actually lock the slide to the rear without inserting a magazine). As a 1911 enthusiast, I liked having the optional slide lock, though I know that everybody and their brother have opinions on that issue. Overall, though...when I first held my D.C.'s Bodyguard, I could feel the difference in quality. It just felt much more solid than my Kel-tec. I love Kel-tec, and what they bring to the table, but I am sold on this little guy, and it is my EDC gun.
