This is not the typical Police coruption story, it is about coruption at the very top of the department and the seat of New York City goverment.
It chronicals events from 1965 to present. The tale of power, personalities and egos are explored in this look behind the scenes at One Police Plaza and the view from the "Shack," on the second floor reporters area.
The book is full of heros and villians and heros who become villians. The birth of COMSTAT, the power plays and back stabbing that came with its inception.
This book is a good and eye opening look to the inside world of the "Puzzle Palace" and its leaders, Kelly, Kerick, Safir, Bratton and their staffs.

There are three major newspapers in New York. Lenny the Lizard wrote for the fourth. He was so successful at it that he now works at home for free. The whole book is one snarky rumor after another. If this interests you, go read the rant (google thee rant) and get it first hand
