| Description: | Steyr AUG is a family of firearms, first introduced in 1977 by the Austrian company Steyr Mannlicher.[2] AUG stands for Armee-Universal-Gewehr, meaning "Universal Army Rifle."[5] It is often used to refer to a specific version, especially the initial version which was 5.56 mm NATO bullpup assault rifle, with a distinctive green frame and integrated scope. It has since spawned a variety of related weapons including a submachine gun, a designated marksman rifle, and light machine guns. It has been adopted by a number of armed forces and organizations and is the standard service rifle of Austria, Australia, New Zealand, Luxembourg, Ireland, and at one time Malaysia. |

I purchased mine through the law enforcement officer purchase program in the early 1990's. Although I didn't use it for duty, I competed in several 3-gun matches and loved every minute using it.

I am an competitive shooter in several disciplines and I own 5 AR15s of different configurations including full-auto. I had the opportunity to shoot the Steyr AUG out in the Nevada dessert a few weeks ago for the first time. This is one of the nicest 5.56 rifles I have ever handled. Simple, accurate and well balanced, this could be used by women and children if they could pry it away from me. K9one

First used the Steyr in the Australian Army. The rifle is a great choice and can with-stand any thing you throw at it. It can be adapted to suit your individual tastes with a short, med and long barrel version. Great bit of gear
