The best weapon an officer has is his/her brain.

I was in kenpo for 2 years...Got up to 3rd brown and had to get out...I was only 3 belts away from black. I have been in martial arts for about 20 years now.

Every officer should have some knowledge of self defense, Karate is a great method that blends some of the best aspects of what most of us are taught at our respective academies. I study jiu jitsu but have great respect for karate practioners

Martial arts are a very good thing, myself and all of my staff are all martial artists, just remember that not all martial arts are not created alike.

If your instructor ONLY knows a sport... that's all you're getting.

Find a knowledgeable instructor who knows more than a game in an art that isn't primarily about a game and drive on.
