From H&K website THE HECKLER & KOCH P2000 The design specifications when starting development on the P2000 were tough, concise and short. They reflected the difficulties faced by today’s police service and the resulting requirements to be met by a police weapon. A pistol had to be designed with features that offer a high degree of safety and also effectively minimise the probability of so-called “Handling related stress drivers” during a police mission. At the same time, the aim was to improve the hit-rate capabilities of the individual shooter- especially during instinctive firing. These requirements have been met uncompromisingly: Highest possible safety and operational reliability under all conditions Optimum ergonomics, capable of being adapted to each individual user Simple and easy operation by both right and left handed shooters Due to its modular design, the P2000 can be fitted to the individual needs of the shooter. The requirements of each and every user can be met due to a variety of trigger and de-cocking systems.

    1st review

Pros: Very forgiving to shoot with a less than ideal hold upon firearm. Accurate for a short sight radius. Compact. Interchangable grips.

Cons: Doesn't like to get dirty. Drop it sand(?)... forget it! Grap your BUG cause you
will need it! Stiff magazine release that WILL NOT loosen after time! Magazines easily

I love this pistol. contrary to the other review, I have found a gun that is very comfortable for a lefty shooter. It's very accurate. It has a long but easy trigger pull. I live next to the ocean and I have had no problems with rust at all. I do think it is a little pricey, but it is a very nice weapon and very well made.

Department issued/mandated. Not a bad weapon, but not a Glock. Personally have had no problems "yet," but have seen problems with other's weapons. Not very good in marine environments...

I have fired only once with one and did not like it as well as the H&K USP 40 I carry. I would not carry anything but the USP 40.

This gun is kind of "EHHH" to me. I like them and think the LEM trigger is one of the best. DHS likes them... Says a lot. But an uncle of mine with CBP HATES his and wish he had his Beretta 96 back... and he hated that too... I know he wants his Smith 686 back in the end... I've fired his (in .40) and it felt good but it DID NOT like Fiocchi Truncated Cone FMJs one bit. But when we put his HST JHP's in there it ran like a champ.

All in all I haven't really decided if I like it or not. For a small gun it is accurate and COMFORTABLE... But when several people I know say "Don't trust your life to it." but several others say "Great gun. Carry it. I do and love it. I trust it" I'm sure you all can see why I'm torn on it.

Not sure what people are talking about with this firearm getting dirty and not liking marine environments. I've beat the crap out of mine and clean it occasionally. Have never had any issues....once had a failure to fire that was fixed by a secondary pull/strike. Much faster than tap, rack, access. Like Glocks but LOVE H&K. Have had no issues with rust on magazines. Consistent trigger reset + second strike + fully ambi = great combat sidearm.
