Very concealable, accurate, and easy to maintain. Low marks for difficulty changing clips and power as it is slightly less than 9mm Parabellum

I liked my Makarov because of its accuracy. The disadvantage: needs to be cleaned constantly, or it jams.

You can find many different versions of this ranging is different prices. It is a good pistol and the weight is just right for an ankle holster.

Bought mine right after E.Germany collapsed and they were selling for less than $100.00, German Makarovs appear to be manufacture to typical German precision, quality, very fine gun, lots of cheap ammo. Highly recomended

I bought an E. German becasue the rumor was it was the best of the Makarov. Numerous fail to fires. Apparently the firing pin is free floating (no spring) tried a differnt firing pin no change. Safety goes in opposite direction as other slide mounted safeties. Heavy DA trigger.

Okay, my Mak is actually a Bulgarian-made specimen, not an East German, but what the hell. I also used to own a genuine-Russian-made Mak, which was my vey first CCW piece (with my Flortida CCW, long before I became a civvy cop).
Very robust and reliable, and quite peppy for a straight-blowback "pocket pistol" caliber--only drawback is that the recoil actually stings harder than a .compact 45 ACP. Very comfortable for discreet carry. Also delightfully simple to field-strip, maintain, and re-assemble, thanks to the fixed barrel. Last but not least, surprisingly accurate and shootable, in spite of the tiny sights and loose "mil-spec" tolerances.
Last but not least, there's the historical significance, being the standard-issue Russian military and police pistol since 1951; (insert Russian accent here) "KGB-tested and approved, spasiba, tovarish!" :-)

I bought mine many moons ago when the East German models were selling for just over $100. Ammo was cheap also, but the copper washed steel which could not be reloaded. (Did lots of reloading back then.) Accuracy is very good, and comparing ballistics to 38Spl +P it is very close with a quality hollowpoint. Hornady made a good load for a while, but haven't used it other than plinking in recent years. Trigger has creep in DA, but smooth in SA. Finish is mirror smooth but jet black. Am used to seeing deep blue that appears to flow when metal polished this fine.

This was the most accurate firearm I have ever owned. Even with the fixed sights. Very rough construction, but it was a trooper and you could beat them to death and still keep shooting. Easy to conceal, nice fit in the hand, and vertually no recoil. Finding an armorer to work on them is a problem.

Nice backup weapon, very concealable. Fixed barrel makes this a very accurate handgun.
Small capacity is a drawback but ok for a backup weapon.I qualified with my initial CWP with this weapon, shot 98 percent, not bad.

I've fired and owned several Russian, Chinese and East German Makaroves. To a gun they have been excellent in the accuracy and function department. The only malfunction I've ever experienced was when using ammo that was improper for the guns. With proper ammo feeding/function are 100% even JHP XTP's or Gold Dots. Pistol is excellent pointer and does not require night sights to hit target in the dark, just point/shoot. Tough as nails and few moving parts. I would trust my life to my Chinese ZZ arsenal Makarov.

I love Makarov's. They are rugged, reliable and cheap. The ammo is relatively easy to find and inexpensive, even in today's market conditions. The guns are accurate and easy to shoot as well. The 9mm Makarov round is a solid performer as well. Hornady makes great self-defense loads for this gun making a solid choice for a personal defense weapon.

I love this little gun, block of iron that is reliable, parts and mags are not always that easy to find. Ammo is cheap but you can also get good quality HPs as well.

A Great back-up or Bedside gun, i own three, one is in the glove box of my truck, one is by my bed and the last i keep on me.
DA Trigger is a bear, if you find one that's not Don't buy it, someone has ground down the firing pin and any Self-Defense use of it will be seen as a danger by the courts making the shooting your fault. Just spend a few days working on the trigger pull and you won't have any problems.
kicks a bit, but not enough that i would complain, most people that complain about the gun 'Biting' them are holding it to far up (Just watch out for that... a bit of practice and it won't happen.)

Good things: Accurate, cheap to shoot, very reliable, easy takedown, very rugged. Bad things: Clip release isn't good, single stack, used to be cheap to buy.

Only had one of these once in my life, but it was when it counted. I had one in Iraq, 20 years ago.

I have had a few and love them! I currently have a Russian made Makarov model IJ70-17AH chambered in .380ACP. Its a high capacity model, with the option of 10,12,14rd magazines plus one in the tube for up to 15rds. Comes with adjustable rear sight for elevation and windage. Accuracy is incredible. As for the take down awesome and as fast as greased lightning! My only issue with it is its euro mag release. But all in all its just a solid gun!
