H60 Blackhawk

Sikorsky Aircraft
Category: Patrol Vehicles & Equipment
Subcategory: Aircraft
Average Rating:
(39 Votes)

The Black Hawk is the primary division-level transport helicopter, providing dramatic improvements in troop capacity and cargo lift capability compared to the UH-1 Series "Huey" it replaces. The UH-60A, with a crew of three, can lift an entire 11-man fully-equipped infantry squad in most weather conditions. It can be configured to carry four litters, by removing eight troop seats, in the MedEval role. Both the pilot and co-pilot are provided with armor-protective seats. Protective armor on the Black Hawk can withstand hits from 23mm shells. The Black Hawk has a cargo hook for external lift missions. The Black Hawk has provisions for door mounting of two M60D 7.62mm machine guns on the M144 armament subsystem, and can disperse chaff and infrared jamming flares using the M130 general purpose dispenser. The Black Hawk has a composite titanium and fiberglass four-bladed main rotor, is powered by two General Electric T700-GE-700 1622 shp turboshaft engines, and has a speed of 163 mph (142 knots).

Good ruged helicopter. A bit expensive but great for SWAT operations. Powerful engins, nice cruising speed, and a glass cockpit. One great chopper!!

The perfect helicopter for combat. The only improvement needed is to replicate the Huey's distinct and adredalin initiating "thump, thump, thump" upon approach. (Vietnam era vets will understand this).

During many flights while in the Army, very reliable and smooth flights under extreme situations. Very forgiving for unexperiernced flyers.

One of the top aircraft to have in your department. UH-1 transport helicopter known as the Black hawk, was the best equipment to have patrolling our U.S. Border. Former U.S. Border Patrol Agent under (DOJ) and now apart of the new DHS.

In the Marine Corps we don't have Black Hawks, but we do a lot of joint work with the Army and DEA and other services. We get inserted for Ops and extractions. I have to say I've had some wild rides and I prefer this as a troop transport helo over other troop transport rotor craft.

Best helicopter Ive ever flown in. Very practical militarily, tactically, and for civilian use. Very high crash survivability compared to most helicopters. Awesome!

I keep suggesting our office gets one but so far no joy...

I was stationed with the Army Aviation Command in the Federal Mart Bldg down town St. Loulis, Mo. I monitored the progress of the UH60 delivery to the Military. I had the honor to monitor the 1st two that were dilivered to the Army. It is one fantastic machine, I was in and out of the Huey in Nam and there is no comparrison to the UH 60 power wise or firepower wise.

Flew Hawks for 6 years after starting out in Hueys. Hueys were great, but 50's tech can't compare to 70's tech, especially when engines and avionics are upgraded. Maintenence can be an issue, so a good ground crew is essential. Extremely powerful and versatile aircraft.

Used for deploying, fast roping, para-trooping, para-rescue, putting out fires, cover fire, and reconnaissance. When you see this, give a salute and I'll wink back. And you! Yeah you, with the meth lab! Pack it up and hit the dirt!

As a US. Army Blackhawk pilot I can attest to the outstanding attributes of this aircraft. However, as a Deputy Sheriff, I dare say there is not an municipal agency out there that could afford to operate and maintain this aircraft.
