Heinlein is one of the best writers ever. I strongly suggest that EVERYONE read ALL of his books.

The description is right, this book is is read by cadets at both the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and at the U.S. Naval Academy at Anapolis. If you are a Soldier or a Marine, ESPECIALLY if you are combat arms, and you have not read this...you are WRONG. This is THE definitive work on the positive use of violence to effect change and for the importance of civic duty.
When I was going through Army initial entry training, the Chaplain showed us the movie Red Dawn...stopped it now and then to talk about the positives of killing and would read exerpts from this book, Starship Troopers, to support egments of Red Dawn.
That is priceless education. And I am a big believer in militaristic culture.

I am normally not a fan of futuristic books/movies, yet this is a book I have read several times and have enjoyed every time. Highly recommended reading.

My favorite work of science fiction. Service equals citizenship! It's about a nation achieving the truest form of freedom, one bound by sacrifice and honor. Interesting point in the book, Force solves more issues than anything else. When all else fails, if our democracy collapses, it will be the veterans who will save us from chaos and destruction. Very prophetic! Sign me up! I certainly would like to know more! Mobile Infantry all the way!!!

Thank you for reviewing my all time favorite novel. An Annaplolis graduate, he examined many important themes in the story (completely glossed over in the film), the most important being the concept of only veterans as voters in society. Loyalty, sacrifice, honor are qualities those who have served have a unique appreciation for. Mr. Heinlein did a superb job communicating this priniple in the novel.

Heinlein has been one of my favorite authors since 7th or 8th grade. Even his 'juveniles' written under pseudonyms are solid works. I'm gonna have to re-read Starship Troopers again after reading all these reviews!
