A good helicopter. Last a long time. Dallas Police has had their pair for over 20 years.

Very reliable and a workhorse. Also, relatively inexpensive to run when put up against comperable aircraft. Only problem is with the weight limit with all of the necessary police gear attached, especially in hot/humid conditions.

It got the job done for the US Army. It got the job done for the Illinois State Police. I still see it getting the job done, 40 years after it began.

Very reliable aircraft. Easy to fly. Good for general patrol, but more modern helicopters offer a much higher payload and mission flexibility. Would not recommend for any type of rescue work.. just not enough power for safety in that type of mission. Would be fine for 1 pilot, 1 observer and a FLIR unit, but many departments try to load the Bell 206B-3 with too much gear and expect it to be able to do everything...even missions it is not suited for. No matter what your training in this aircraft, would recommend a course at Bell Helicopter...the flight training is top notch as are the instructors.
