Smith & Wesson has finally made a great Semi-Auto pistol. My agency is now in the process of transitioning from the Glock 22 over to the M & P 45. This is a nice smooth shooting weapon that looks similar to the Sig or H&K. It comes with three palm swales so that you can adjust the size of the grip to fit your needs. In addition you also have the option of ordering with an external safety and a magazine safety.

We have opted for no external or magazine safety. This will allow the weapon ti fire w/o the magazine. One other safety feature is that there is a sear pin inside of the magazine well that has to be manipulated in order to break the weapon down. This forces you to look into the chamber and make double sure the weapon is empty before disassembly. Great Job Smith & Wesson.

Over all- S&W did a great job at building a Firearm.... I did see a few CONS- out of the box it was really stiff ( in a tatctical release the mag would stick and have to be pulled out, the slide release took work to use and was tough on the thumb. The slide after locked back on an empty mag wouldn't slide forward when a new mag was put in causing you to either "rap" the mag hard to seat the mag or "slapping" the slide . After our department qualified /cleaned our weapons ( with an armorers present ) we had one gun jam with the slide in mid-battery to the point it had to be taken out of service ( about 150 rounds through it. The mags were hard to load for smaller officers requiring them to use a mag loader, also a number of the mags wouldn't double stack properly.. NOW that we've put 500 to 1000 rounds through the gun the only issues that seem to remain seem to deal with the slide... still is hard on the thumb release and the slide won't close after replacement of a full mag... PROS-- out of the box grouping were alot tighter, the trigger pull is crisp but light enough to be managble for even weaker officers. We shot and hit 5 inch metal plates at various distances from a moving boat.. This firearm is comfortable to carry because of the light frame and has 3 interchangable grips to fit hand size. we carry the 45 model which even in the small frame size doesn't "bark" uncontrolable either.. I LIKE THIS GUN.....

I have carried the M&P 45 for about 18Months. I chose it over the G21 because of the grip angle and feel. It actually points like my 1911 but I don't have to worry about dinging my $1500.00 Les Baer when I carry it on duty. It has had 3000 rounds through it without a single failure to feed, eject or misfire, it just keeps performing. Our qualification shoots are every 3months and expert is 35 out of 40 rds in the kill zone. I have yet to get less than 37 out of 40.It is a great gun that i would recommend to any officer who wants a reliable duty gun.

I bought this gun three months ago...I love it. The interchangeable grips make it easy to personalize the fit, fired 300 rds so far with no issues. What a nice gun for the price.
