I have carried my Glock for years its a 1st Generation the only things ive done to it is tritium sights and a grip on the handle. Reliable to a T. I wish i could carry it when I'm on duty as a MP or when I was in Iraq.

Easy handling, reliable, very low recoil, easy to clean, accurate. I have purchased the best night sights to make it a perfect gun. Paid $398 for the gun and about $90 for the best night sights (law enforcement pricing). I don't think that I would ever want a different gun.

I have 6 guns, 4 of them are handguns. My Glock was the first gun I bought and it is still my favorite. It is also the most accurate handgun I have. Most people say you should have a .40 caliber or bigger, but bigger is not better if you can't shoot accuratly.

I will start by saying that all Glocks are an excellent choice for a firearm. Reliability is its best feature, no matter what the condition and situation my Glock has never once Jammed or came even remotely close to letting me down or disappointing me in any way, shape, or form. Like most cops, I have extensive experience with many handguns. By far my "Glock 17" is the most well rounded and versatile pistol that I have ever had the pleasure to carry. To those that balk about knock down power with the 9mm, I say, choose your ammo wisely and learn to shoot the weapon you carry. On or Off Duty this weapon is my primary weapon.

I give this weapon five stars because it's simply the best at what it's designed for. The first time I shot one, I hated it, especially after being raised on 1911 pattern weapons. And I still have to compensate for the grip angle vs. Colt and every other manufacturer on the planet. But if you want a weapon with superior reliability, easy to master controls and strong resistance to harsh environments, the Glock is the answer. For the average person, this weapon is excetionally easy to become proficient with. Though not necessarily the best choice for highly trained specialized units, it is popular amongst tactical types, again due to it's low maintenance/high reliability characteristics. Forget "racking in" an 18th cartridge. Glock offers +2 mag extensions which don't protrude and give the weapon a true 20 round capacity with one in the chamber. The only thing more reliable than a Glock is a crowbar and they will rust easier than this pistol! Five stars all the way!

We are issued Glock 17 9mm through our Department (Joliet,Il). The weapon (if you like Glocks)functions pretty good. Not my first choice, but we have to make good with what we are offered. I would prefer (and the majority of the Department) to upgrade to at least the .40 cal. We have had past shootings where the 9mm has hit a bad guy and he was still able function and return fire before dying. Need a caliber with more beef. The Glock serves the Department well because it is easily maintained by an armorer (Glock has a class).

A fantastic firearm, the Glock 17 develops small groups even at range. This is a wonderful gun to shoot down at the range. The kick is minimal, and even less experienced shooters are likely to get a lot of benefit from this handgun. Sports comfortable grip and maintains control from start to finish.

I recently qualified firearms training for a new job with this weapon. These guns are rented from a dealer by the village for this purpose. Everyone uses this weapon whether you have your own or not. Theses guns have untold thousands of rounds put through them. Students who have never even held a weapon were able to handle this quite easily. My only complaint if it is even that is the take down procedures, I have never been able to become proficient at this with a glock. Still one of my all time favorites.

After 11 years of carrying a revolver as a duty weapon, the Gloc 17 was my first 9mm handgun. I've been carrying it on-duty for 6 years now and the only reason I would chnage is to go to a higher caliber Gloc. It has never failed. Even after being submerged in the muddy water of the south Louisiana Coast.

Our Department just swapped from the Glock 22 .40cal to the G17 9mm. In my opinion DUMB move. Normally you want to go up in caliber not down, but hey what do I know. After shooting it, it is still a glock, which I LOVE. But the 9mm round SUCKS!!!!!!! Had to shoot a deer the other day took 3 rounds which normally would have only took 1 from the .40 I guess saving a few bucks on ammo is better than my safety.

As most everyone knows, glocks are extremely tough and reliable guns. You can do just about anything to them and they will still fire. However, there are some attributes to them that some people just don't like. For example, I find the glock to be a little bit clumbsy because it is top heavy. The lightweight plastic handle is vastly different compared to the heavy metal slide. In addition, I find the glock slighty more difficult to control than other guns, like the beretta 92. The glock feels like it has a little more kick which I think is due to the difference in weight and how top heavy the glock is. Still, the glock is extremely low maintenance and very easy to field strip, which makes cleaning a breeze. Basically, it consists of four components, the handle, the slide, the barrel, and the spring. Overall, the glock is a solid firearm and a good choice for anyone who wants to shoot. It just has little differences that some people may find more or less aesthetically pleasing than on other guns - just a matter of personal preference.

Just finished Indiana State Police firearms training with this gun. My first gun used "extensively", first gun used for most other recruits. no complaints here. When a trainer can get 8 recruits who have never fired a gun to hit center mass consistently after 2 days of training, the gun has something to do with it.

Glock armories have yet again made a sturdy pistol for Law Enforcement. Overall good on duty weapon. Extremely light and accurate and handles well on medium range targets. Comes with a 17 round magazine wich is a reasonable amount of cartridges for a LEO, but can hold 18 if desired.

The Glock 17 was such a large difference from the Kahr i had used first, it had a smooth trigger pull, the recoil was much easier on the hand. accurate as well which made my day.. what is humorous is that the easy of use was so great it was discomforting. that allow would not allow the drop of a start the only true problem i found the Glock 17 had was that it had too little punch for primary carry, and too much weight for Every Day Carry. aside from that it's a marvelous gun.

I have to first admit that it took me a long time to get on the Glock bandwagon. In fact I believe it was in the next state over before I managed to catch up with it and jump on board.
Having said that I absolutely love this firearm. It is rugged and dependable. The capacity is outstanding a 18+1. It is a nine, but having had combat experience my philosophy is if you need more than a 9mm then you need a long gun, not a handgun. I also like how simple this weapon is. Anyone with a little time and a allen key set can completely disassemble and repair anything on this weapon except for the frame and slide. Add to that the fact that all of the parts are inexpensive and readily available and you have the ultimate user serviceable weapon.
I love it and I trust my life to it every day.

Very reliable weapon! I bought the extended mags which allowed a few more rounds (2+1 in the pipe) and carry with a shoulder holster with two additional mags (51 rds. total) and retrofitted a hi-power laser. The gun is light enough to carry all day without dragging you down and reliably performs w/o malfunction. Needs to be loved by oil as firing many rounds tend to dry the slide around the barrel potentially causing "stove-pipe" or worse, seizing. If your mission includes multiple targets, this is a good gun to have. Knock-down rating is 6/10 but if your a good shot, round placement will do the defense it is designed for. Functions with dirt or heavy carbon if you don't get opportunities to stop for awhile.

I have carried several 9mm semi-auto pistols in my career and am of the opinion that the Glock 17 is the best of the bunch. It has always functioned flawlessly for me and is very accurate. I am also perplexed by the reviews of individuals who constantly speak to the knock down power of a 9mm. And yet as a homicide detective, I have worked more homicides which were perpetrated by .22 and .25 midnight specials. It is certainly more about where you place your rounds than how large the projectile happens to be. I have been a cop for 21 years and have personally investigated cases where a .22 versus a .45 left the .22 victim almost dead on scene and the ..45 victim walking away with a very minor wound. If you are looking for the perfect duty, off-duty or self-defense weapon, the Glock 17 is your pick of the litter. I could not more heartily recommend this semi-auto pistol and have carried one for the last six years.

My first duty auto and I still have and carry it today after 20+ years. Mine has no rails or finger grooves like the current ones, but I cannot find a single bad thing to say about this weapon. I can and do count on it for my life and love it. I have a Sig P228 that is now my duty gun, but that's because the department moved to Sig. My Glock still gets worn and when I qualify I normally bring it and run the course with it as well. Even after all this time and only one jam with factory ammunition, I still shoot 238+/240 with my trusty G17. When it's my time I'll die still owning this gun.

I carry this every day for work and thank god i have not had to use it... sure, this Block will fire any ammo you want to put through it but geez, i'd like the rounds to go where the weapon is aimed... i clean all my weapons after every use and this thing still collects more dust in the barrel than the top of my TV... i've put several hundreds of rounds down the tube and it is still shooting. (reason there is at least two stars) the 9mm is a wimpy round but i cant really blame the weapon for that. overall, this is a very dependable firearm consistency-wise, but i just wish it was consistantly accurate!

Affordable, reliable and simple. I rarely leave home without my Glock 17. High ammo capacity makes up for the small caliber projectile, although the 9mm is one of the most accurate calibers in a handgun in my opinion. Easy maintenance and best of all, Glock's lifetime warranty.
