We use this radio where I work.. very nice radio, only drawback is the weight (heavy). It has been very reliable for us.

For the last 7 years our Special Response Team has been using this radio. It is one tuff radio. The knobs are large enough to easily adjust but not to big to catch on things. Sound quality is also good. With a good battery the radio will last an easy 10-12 hours.
This model is no longer made but we have been buying used ones to keep on hand.

I have owned and used the HT1000 for about 5 years now and its hands down the best radio Motorola ever made. Not only is it the best but it's also their most durable one they have made.

I have used the HT-1000 radio for 7 years and it is truely a great handheld radio. Its extremely reliable, comfortable to hold and easy to use. I only wish it had more than 16 channels.

we used these for aco's. they are a bit heavy i wonder if we had the 'heavier' battery since i was able to switch batts with someone with the SO. turned out the SO batt was thinner, thus making this lighter (to me). if i recall, it seemed as if out antannaes (sp?) were shorter??? much better than the "back in the day" ones .... those were like a foot long and a leg thick :P

The last good radio bearing the bat wings, the HT1000 is reliable and rugged. I have about 50 of them in UHF and they are great. Simple to program and use, the highway patrol has used them for over a decade and they still work well.

I used this radio for almost 12 years and only had to replace the battery. It works great under any circumstances I subjected it to. Great public safety radio. I wish Motorola still made them if they did and it were up to me we'd still have it! "Bulletproof"

I think this is a great radio. I use a shoulder mic, with the antennae on it, and there a very few places in the county that I have to go back to my vehicle to talk on the radio. Great reception and Transmission.

Tough as nails! Very good working radio....we still have a couple and they work a ton better than the new Vertex replacements.

I use this radio on my site, but the only problem I have with it is the dead spots. My company bought a couple of these for the high profile sites, but the majority still use Maxon TP4800.

Sixteen channels and decent reception, even in most buildings. Unfortunately this radio has recently been phased out of my department and replaced with a high-tech piece of crap. Motorola still makes the best police radio equipment.

This was an excellent radio but has been overshadowed by new, more user-friendly model like the 1250. This radio boasts a large channel group and a panic button.

GETS THE JOB DONE BUT BARELY. OUR DEPARTMENT STILL HAS THESE BUT WE JUST GOT THE GRANT FOR THE 800MHZ. UNFORTUNATELY THIS RADIO IS ONLY 500MHZ AND THERE ARE MANY DEAD ZONES IN THE CITY THAT THE RADIO DOES NOT TRANSMIT OR RECIEVE FROM.

Great Radio! Just make sure you replace the batteries every couple of years, Otherwise you'll end up carrying a second one around with you for when it dies about the middle of your shift...

Very good radio. Use to carry one for Search and Rescue, and saw these radios take a beating, and kept on ticking.
I now carry one for volunteer law enforcement, and I am very proud to carry one. Where others carry ICOMs and Midlands, and have problems, I can communicate where they can not.

I've never had a problem, been carrying this radio for two years. I have my earpiece hooked into it so my transmission cannot be heard. Been caught in the rain quite a few times, only had a problem with my plug in mic, not the radio.

I can't complain about this radio. I used a Kenwood for the fire department and it is a POS. This one is a little on the big side and the power/volume knob is super sensitive. Other than that it's a great investment.

We use this radio with our MEGs, with additional mikes and earplugs. Great to have with you, also relatively lightweight, at least when compared to our older models :-)
