SIG handguns feel like they were manufactured to my hand's specifications. Match comfort with the heritage of Swiss precision and reliability and you've got a perfect sidearm.

I carry this in .40 as a back-up and off-duty unit. I have been extremely impressed with the ease of use and accuracy on the range. I have always been a Glock fan and this is a far better shooting gun.

I have this in the Equinox. I have never had any problems with this gun. I will always use Sig. I am very impressed with the accuracy with the short barrel. I shoot .357 sig and would not shoot any other round.

I absolutely love my Sig. I love the compact size of the 229 versus the 226. It's a little easier to conceal for off duty and UC work. The nice thing about the 229 is you arent losing any round capacity vs the larger 225 and 226. It's faster out of the holster and so easy to carry. The light weight frame makes carrying it a breeze. I would recommend the p229 for any and all of my LE brothers and sisters for on and off duty use!

My SIG SAUER 229 gets 5 stars across the board. Reliability that comes second to none. It wouldnt be on my duty belt if I thought any less. (My life and my partner's relies on it)

I've used many hanguns police and military, one of, if not, the best and interchangable clips with my off duty sig pro 2340 .40 w/15 round capacity. Won my department award, 3 consecutive 300's...predictable, accurate, consistant.

This pistol has an unbeatable combination of legendary reliability, outstanding ergonomics and astounding accuracy! Glock fanciers hype up the cost factor, but I can only say that you get what you pay for--Sigs are worth every penny. After having to carry a Glock 22 .40 for several years I can say it is a welcome relief to be able to carry my Sig now. This is the pistol that won me over the first time I fired it, and no other gun has managed to displace it yet. Except maybe the DAK variant.....

For off duty (or on) I like the size not too bulky and still have the cap of the 226. I know this may sound strange but with my Springfield XD I have difficulty with my seatbelt. I guess the 229 is just the right size.

The worked great after having 1000+ rounds fired from it and was easy to clean. My only problem was i have a hard time getting the slide lock lever to lock the slide back. I think more practice or a larger lever will fix that problem. The fact the Sig has an officer supply program make me as a Rookie feel good that i can get the best bang for my buck without spending a lot and still be ready for duty.

I agree with ckrayrandy, this is a great gun. I also have problems at times with the slide lock lever, maybe a little thumb edge on the lever would help. Ok, for some reason I can't rank it higher than a 2 but its a 4 in my book!

I had the DAO version and although I liked the weapon, I had a problem with the return spring fraying. I did have the I&NS version of it which was DAO with no de-cocker, .40 S&W. Sold it to a friend who has had nothing but good luck with it. Only give it a three.

I'm currently using the SIG P229 in a .40 cal. and I will never use another for a primary carry weapon. I've owned and used Glock, CZ, and Rugar semi-autos but this Sig beats them all. Well worth the $750 in my opinion. It's perfect in weight and size. It's also easy to break down and clean. It is the perfect sidearm, in my opinion.

Excelent durability - definitely "hell and back" tough - This Sig features a shorter barrel which makes it ideal for concealment and close-quarters. The .357sig happens to be standard issue service weapon for the MHP.

I use this weapon as my off duty carry. It fits the bill 100%. It fits my hand perfectly and I love how the controls are arranged. It shoots real good! A very accurate, well made, and rugged item. It has traveled with me into some remote places and I never worry that it witll function. I have shot well over 1500 rounds through it and it still works well. Well made pistols are like cars. Keep them clean and well maintained. They will serve you well.

I just picked this up, I went from a Beretta, to a Smith & Wesson to this. By far the best of the three. I have fired many types of firearms and this has to be the best one ever. I carry the .40 S&W, wanted the .357 Sig but oh well. Sig's regardless of the model are the best on the market and worth the price. I like the fact it can be used as an on duty or off duty firearm due to it's compact size. Better than a Glock and fires smooth!

We just changed to the 229 40 Cal from the 226 9mm. Sig's are great guns. Part of our switch was going to double action only and that is an adjustment after 16 years of double/single. The size of teh gun is great for large and small handed officers.

I have the 229 in .357 sig. Extremely accurate and very versatile. The .357 sig round packs a great punch and has proven itself as a great patrol round. Love the ease of assembly and disassembly. The only draw back is the weight. Tends to get cumbersome when you are holding someone at gunpoint for an extended period of time.

This is an awesome pistol! I carried it as an issued weapon for about 5 years before my agency switched to Glock. The Glock is a fine weapon but it doesn't have sex appeal like the Sig! LOL Anyway we switched due to cost issues. The only upside is that we were allowed to buy our Sigs for $300. Needless to say, I bought mine. I just wish I could shoot the Glock as well as I shoot the Sig.

An instructor at our academy told us if you ever bought or used a Sig you would never be satisfied with any other weapon. He was right. My life depended on this weapon and it has never let me down. I now own/use only Sigs. " In a crisis, you will not rise to the occasion but rather default to your level of training" My Sig 229 and 220 are my best friends and constant companions in this uncertain period in American history.

As a retired Texas State Trooper, Investigator, Supervisor, Inspector, and Firearms Instructor, I have never fired a better weapon than the Sig. This weapon has never jammed on me and has very little "kick" or movement when fired. It is a very accurate weapon with a lot of fire power. We, in Texas, highly appreciate a weapon of this caliber for protection.

I have just purchased this gun used from my local gun shop. I would love to see what is done to the certified used Sig arms. I would never be able to tell this was not a new firearm! This gun will replace a Taurus PT 940 that I carry off duty. I'm sorry but that gun is a piece of crap. My brothers department issues the Sig 229 and he cannot say enough about this piece. I carried this sidearm in the sandbox and never once had a malfunction. I have put close to 6,000 rounds through mine and it still performs as if i just took it out of the box. I carry this in .40 and must say that this is a perfect round in my opinion. Plenty of penetration and knockdown power. It handles extremely well and, its compact frame makes it easy to conceal. If yours lifes on the line, the P229 wont let you down.

I have a personal one in 357Sig and carried on in MD as a primary duty weapon for 7 years in .40SW and absolutely love it. IMHO, a far better pistol than the Beretta that I had in the Marines, more accurate than my old S&W 5906 and feels more solidly built than my now issue Glock 23. If the 357Sig ammo weren't so hard to find and expensive I would carry this on duty now.

This is my duty weapon, we carry the P229 in .40 at my Police Department and I am very happy with it. It has been flawless on the ranges thusfar, no hangups, no misfires. I also have a P229 in the .357 that I sometimes carry off duty. The .357 Sig round is fantastic, great stopping power, great speed and not much recoil.

The SIG P229 frame is heavy, but can accomodate either .357sig or 40 S&W ammo by just switching out the barrels. all and all its not a bad firearm, although i would much prefer something else!

I gave it a four due to the trigger is a little dirty but may clean up if used more. For a duty gun I would like to see an extra saftey like the XD or SW have. As for accuracy come on its a SIG!! Straight out of the box at 15 yards I was at 2.5 inches.

I don't have a vast amount of experience with Sig Sauer, but I purchased through the individual officer purchase program and although I had quite a few hoops to jump through to get it overall it was worth it. I took this weapon right out of the box cleaned off the excess oil and fire a departmental required 20 round qualification course. I scored better with this weapon than I did with my duty weapon. It is a bit heaver than some of the choices out there but it fit my hand well and functioned flawlessly. I had the SRT trigger system installed so it was a little stiff however I was an even pull which made it not as noticeable. I wish this was our duty carry. I have the rail model so holsters were kinda hard to find that fit, but if you live in a colder state it would be a great off duty carry.

This is my duty weapon. My agency went from the Beretta 92FS to the Sig .40s&w P229R-DAK (DAO) model. We currently have in the neighborhood of 40K in inventory. Good, solid, reliable handgun, it fits well in just about everyone's hand. I love the .40s&w round, perfect balance between the capacity of a 9mm, and the knock down of a .45 ACP, it is definitely anti-badguy.

I bought a P229R in 357 sig with the DAK trigger system a while ago and I must say it is by far the best firearm I have ever purchased. The trigger is rated at about 6.5 lbs, but it feels much lighter. It is always smooth and consitent and delivers 1-2 inch groups at 25 yards. It's fast out of the holster and handles very well. I am approaching 1000 rounds with no malfunctions of any kind. I carry a 226 for duty, but it is the standard DA/SA, the DAK is much better. I am currently trying to get the DAK configuration authorized for my department.

My unit issues this Sig and we have had numerous problems with it. The fact that it is all metal means it requires weekly cleaning. I have gone through several sets of springs and a couple take down levers and also had the extractor arm break. On the range I can only put a couple hundred rounds through before experiencing double feeds and failure to fires. At least I'm getting a lot of practice on my immediate action drills.

I have and older (Mid 90's) model and it has been my off duty friend for all of that time. I carry this pistol almost as much as my duty gun. I have fires thousands of rounds and carried it in 8-10 different holsters. If I do my part, it does it's with flare. It has digested all of the different ammos I have tried and been so consistent, I do not have a preference on ammo type. Most ammo from a rest lands in the 3 inch circle or less at 15 meters mark. I can consistently hit a 50 full silhouette if I don't palm the gun. ( old habit). You would have a hard time getting a better pistol comparing apples to apples. It is not my Kimber but thems' are different apples aren't they.

The Cadillac of pistols, great shoot, nice feel, and a trusted piece of machinery. I carried this weapon for approximately 5 years and loved it. It’s a high maintenance piece of equipment for law enforcement. By me saying that I mean it’s a wet gun that requires weekly inspections, and regular oil. I have made the mistake of being in the rain with this weapon the night before and neglected to clean it after my shift and found rust. So remember that this is a tool to help protect life, and one that should be respected.

I am going to anger the conventional wisdom gods. I don't like this pistola. it can be great on the range. It stinks in desert and humid environments. It is finicky with ammo, and don't get me started on poor concealability for undercover ops. I've carried this as a fed and as a patrol deputy, I know of whence I speak.

I have this gun in the DA/SA .40 S&W. Ever since I was old enough to purchase guns, I wanted a Sig. Never really knew much about them, but I liked their design and popularity. My first gun was a Glock because I couldn't afford the Sig back then (only downfall to a Sig is the cost). I have no complaints with Glocks because I carry one for work and my personal Glock has served me well; however, when I finally got my Sig, it was a whole other world. Accuracy was better and it hip shots went exactly where I pointed. Never had a jam in nearly 1,000 rounds. We evern went shooting with the cheaper ammo with the aluminum casing. My buddy's Kimber kept jamming, but my Sig fed it. I plan on getting a P-220 further on down.

THis is my issued firearm. Our guns are with the DAK trigger. It shoots and great and, well, it's a SIG...need I say more? You can not get a better firearm anywhere. I would prefer the .357 (which I have for off duty) but our 9mm still fuctions very well. It's light on the hip and fits the hand well. All in all, a great pistol.

I have this in .357 sig and I plan to drop in a .40cal too. I don't have to change anything else as the recoil spring and the mags are the same.

I own two of these myself. The first is the single / double action and the second is the Double Action Only. I use the DAO for off duty concealed carry. It's small, reliable and accurate. I am very happy with my purchases. I also have alot of respect for Sig pistols. They are very well made and won't let you down. I never had a malfunction while on the range with either one. If you are thinking about buying one do yourself a favor and do it you will not be disappointed in your selection.

I've been carrying the P229 for the last year and love it. This pistol is accurate, easy to maintain, reasonable in size for the firepower, and proven in the field. I've owned and used other Sigs and never had a problem with any of them. My friend had a minor problem and Sig fixed it for him quickly. He was the second owner of that particular gun and it had seen lots of service.
Worked narco with an officer who carried one of these on duty and under cover. It took me several years to finally buy one and I am glad I did.

I carry the Sig Sauer 229, chambered in Sig 357 as my duty weapon. It is both accurate and reliable.
