This handgun is absolutely one of the best I have fired. I am in the military and have fired many different kinds of weapons. This handgun is very accurate and extremely durable/reliable. It has undergone the same tests as the Glock and HK passing all the stress tests. It ergonomically fits my hand much better than the Glock, that is why I chose it. It will take about any accessory that you want to add to it as well. I have the 4" barrel .40S&W and can't say enough about its durbility, accuracy, and great feel. I highly reccomend this handgun to anyone who wants an incredible gun at an unbeatable price!

I recently purchased the 40S&W 5" tactical and the 3" stainless steel. I absolutley love it. It is a little heavy in the front but that barrell will take a lot of abuse. Never jammed, i've put about 1,000 rounds through her in 2 months. It is very accurate and a great learning weapon. I've taken my wife out and she absolutley love it.

I actually have the .45 ACP, 4" model, but I have fired the .40 S&W. Both have an amazing feel to them and my girlfriend is mostly likely going to purchase the .40 for her own CCW. After 7 years in the military, I have fired many different weapons but none have the accuracy and feel as these handguns.

Excellent weapon. Dead on target. Smooth Action. Easy to handle, comfortable to grip with sandpaper stick on's even in wet weather. 40 S&W the caliber to use. Knock down potential is great, smooth trigger pull, very little kick back. Great weapon all around.

The Springfield XD (ANY MODEL) is a great weapon. If a SIG and a Glock had a love child, the XD would be it. The best of both.

I have owned my XD 40 for about two years and have put countless rounds through it with no problems at all. It is one of the easiest pistols I have ever shot in my lifetime. My model aslo has the ported barrell which makes the slight recoil the .40 S&W disappear. It's easy to disassemble and you can put a variety of accessories on it if you like. I am currently in the military and wish I could carry mine over the M9 they give us every day. It's a must have for any pistol lover.

I give this weapon a definite 10. Out of the box the XD 40 is very accurate, feeds anything you give it, and the trigger smoothness is amazing. Glock is gone! Wow, love this weapon! Go down to your local range and give it a test drive. You will not be sorry.

I have put over 2000 rounds through this gun with no problems. Perfect weight not to light, not to heavy. Very accurate. Let a new shooter put a mag down range and you would have thought they knew what they were doing. Everyone should have one.

I owned this weapon for three years, I loved the way it shot and fit into my hands when firing. I no longer own it after it continued to jam with over the counter practice ammo. The gun also malfunctioned once when dust and lint collected in the receiver, I think the dust came from placing the gun down between the front seat of my truck while driving down the road. I got rid of the gun after that malfunction. I know I should clean the gun, but with a name like Extream Duty, it should fire under all conditions, especially lint, dust, and practice ammo.

i personally did not like this weapon...i bought it for concealed carry. it was wide and very top heavy. the weapon was not as accurate at as the glock 27, and has a lot of felt recoil. the gun also rusted quickly too, and required a lot more attention for maintenance.

SA describes the grip angle as "point and shoot ergonomics". All I know is that when I hold my XD-40, it feels like it's part of my arm. The best pistol I've ever owned.

As my first semi automatic handgun that I have owned, I must say that I am very pleased with the purchase. This has a much more natural feel than its competition, Glock. The angle of the handle rests more upright in your hand than a Glock, which I feel would make it easier to aim and shoot. It is very simple to take down and clean also. Another perk I found is the left or right handed magazine release.

Love it! Absolutely the best of the many weapons I have fired. I have owned one since 05 and I have only had one feed issue. I tracked that down to one of the three magazines I got with the weapon. The holster is OK as far as positioning of the weapon on the hip, but to draw is not bad, but I've had better. This is far superior to my M9 I carry with the USAF. Definitely recommend it.

I love this gun!! I have small hands and it fits perfect. The recoil is almost non-existent. I don't feel like I'm firing a cannon like I do, when I fire a Glock. As for those of you having problems with it rusting, the company can recoat it for you if you contact them. I had mine recoated and have not had a problem since. I also had the springs replaced in the magazines and have never had any ammo jam up in it. Just some suggestions to improve an already awesome gun. My only complaint is the fact I can't find a decent holster for it. Any suggestions out there?

Luv, Luv, Luv this side arm. I traded my Sig P226 9mm for this weapon. It fits my hand better(I have small hands), has a lot less kick than the Sig and shoots much smoother. Its my favorite "cocktail" other than 1800 Gold! Just as good as the Sig or Glock(lots more kick), but easier to use.

Best gun un the market hands down. In my opinion anyway. I love this gun, my range scores increased by 10 points between this gun and a glock. It fits your hand so naturally the ergonomics of this gun are wonderfull. Go to the range with your gun, rent this one, shoot them both and you will prob leave your gun there.

I was looking for a new pistol for home protection when i came accross the XD 40... i held it and it felt like a perfect fit. when i finally got my very own and shot it for the first time i knew that i was correct that this is one heck of a firearm!!!! the only thing i dont understand is where is the key that will "lock-down" the gun in a non-operational state as said above? my firearm did not come with a key, nor did the dealer know of this. however if any one knows please email me @

I just LOVE my XD 40, you could not have asked for a better handgun. I jus finish 8 yaers as a Military Police Officer and after useing a M 9 for all those years, the XD 40 blows it away. This by far is and has been the best handgun I've ever owned. My wife even loves it. I was sceptical at first but it didn't take long to fall in love with the way it shoots or how well it hits in my hand. I think I need the 3" model to keep my service model company. You wouldn't go wrong with the Springfield XD 40, IT ROCKS!!!

If you give a Glock 22/23 better ergonomics, higher accuracy, a better safety system, and make it practically ambidextrous and you've got the XD40. It's been a great competition gun and the research shows it performs just as well as the Glocks in torture tests. The firearm is a bargain with respectable quality.

Just bought an XD40, the subcompact version. I put a couple of hundred rounds through it this weekend, to get a feel for the new gun. I just was wondering if anyone has experienced something I was curious about.......
Every single round I put through the gun this weekend had a drag mark on the spent casing, where the pin struck the primer, and drug against it, as the casing was being ejected i believe. I have never encountered this before on any other gun, and it concerns me slightly. Please email and let me know what you have to say, jarrod.norman@gmail.com- Flag as inappropriate

I have been a range safety officer since graduating college in 2004 and instruct all levels of students in the private sector. I have found that this firearm is extremely user friendly, points well, and has a managable recoil in 40 S&W. This pistol comes with 2 hi cap mags, a paddle holster, mag loader, mag holster, cleaning kit and hard case. Not many pistols can compete with the price or overall function of this weapon. As far as accuracy is concerned, you can break 4" clay targets with the 4" barrel in .40 at 100 yards with little practice. Not too bad for a tactical pistol. It seems a little top heavy at first, but after firing, this extra weight helps keep the muzzle down for faster follow up shots.

Seeing how accurate and how well it fit my hand, how well it handled and shot with the 357sig version, I decided to buy one. I got the 40S&W since the store did not have any 357Sig variant for sale. I will drop in the 357 sig barrel from midway as soon as it arrives. I got the 4" version for CC in the hotter months here in Vegas. Although I still carry my S&W1911 45 ACP most of the time with my trusty 38 snub. The XD is a great alternative to a Glock, Sig, and H&K.

Im a big fan of the XD series of firearms and with the new XD(M) out they will continue to be one of my favorite handguns. The XD40 features the old 1911 style safety and a trigger style safety much of us recognize from Glock. I also like the fact that you can look at the weapon and tell wether it is cocked and loaded or not. There is a cocked weapon indicator at the rear of the slide and a chambered round indicator on top of the slide just behind the barrel. This is good for several common sense reasons but I like to paint the picture that if its 3 AM and you are awaken by strange sounds coming from your living room and you know thetre shouldnt be, you reach for the XD on the night stand and can feel with your thumb that its cocked and there is a round in the chamber, then you can now investigate what goes bump in the night knowing that you are locked, cocked and ready to rock.

Absolutely love this weapon. The feel and accuracy is outstanding. Chose this over the GLOCK, and will do the same on any day. Can't wait until I can test fire the new XDm. I will be purchasing more the XD line of weapons in the future. The one thing that I don't like about the XD is the finish. Wears off to easily, and the slightest bit of moisture and you will know it. But still the best weapon I own or have owned. Hands down the greatest.

I consider this pistol one of the best by far. I was always a glock owner, but know i have the .40 S&W service model XD. It is much like a glock but it has more safety to it. It has more features than a glock. Two in one feature is visually without pulling back on the slide you can tell if the weapon is cocked & loaded. The best feature by far for me is on the back of the grip where the pistol has an extension that goes in when your hand is on it, this deactivates your safety. Just like the glock, it has a smooth loading and break down.

So far I've shot three different .40's ... a Sig 226, a Glock 22 and this Springfield XD.
The Springfield was hands down the easiest to shoot and handle. The Sig was heavy and tough to manage for myself as a novice shooter. The Glock was better, but pulled left because the grip was just a tad to big for my hands. Once I shot the XD, I knew I had found a great weapon.
It has a solid feel, great balance and an excellent trigger pull. I'm not saying anything bad about the other two guns, but for me, the Springfield was top notch. I really couldn't find anything to complain about on it other than having to pull the trigger to field strip.
Why that doesn't count against it in my ranking is that the slide has to be locked to the rear before that trigger is pulled. That decreases the chance of an accident to near nil since you are forced to recognize if there is still ammo in the weapon.
The bottom line on the weapon is that it shoots great and is easy to control. When under stress, that is what matters.

I bought an XD-9 last year and liked it pretty well with the only exception being the grip. I looked around for a slip on grip but was able to find on. SInce then, a new XD-M has came out with several improvements including the grips.
Has anyone tried the XD-M yet? I would consider getting another one in a 40 if the grips were significantly better. XD-M is a bit pricey though.

im in the academy right now. 2 of the recruits chose this as their duty weapons. the staff kinda chuckled when they saw them but function checked them and allowed them on the range. to date, one recruit has changed his weapon completely and the other is waiting for a new one. i have never felt sick to my stomach as i was when i saw this gun jam so many times. both were new. both jammed numerous times in the hands of instructors....DO NOT BUY THIS GUN!!!! get a glock. that said ...hk is good but parts are expensive and customer service has sucked for many years..... they also dont like berettas because of the refusal to update the de-cocking location...ummmm what else.... i think thats it. combined the staff has over 200 years experience. some have worked for companies, all have been in real life shootings....take it for what its worth.... also, this is the orange county sheriffs department in california. ask anyone.. it IS the best.

When I carry, this is my weapon of choice. This pistol is idiot-proof. In other words, this gun has 5 safety features so that it will not fire and cannot be fired unless it is properly handled. I use a Blackhawk Serpa CQ holster for this weapon. I fired a Hi-Point 9mm for a while (anyone that has used one will know that it is a heavy pistol). I find that there is less recoil with the XD versus the Hi-Point Compact. Right out of the box this firearm will shoot a 1" to 2" grouping at 21 ft (7 yds). I went for about 3 weeks without cleaning my XD and it did not have any trouble firing. Anyone who wants a reliable firearm that is safe and afforadable can depend on the Springfield XD.

I bought the XD .40 Sub Compact to use in the POST. I am left handed so the Ambidextrious Mag release is great. Having shot Glocks (without ambidextrious release) it was nice to have the ability to perform speed reloads with ease.
The Mags however, I would like if they came with polymer casing like the Glock Mags. I was having problems with the rounds failing to move up the slide and into the barrel, after stripping the gun and inspecting it I found there was nothing wrong with it. So I looked at the Mag and it was very slightly bent at the top which was causing the rounds to load slightly canted to the right and catching on the corrner of the slide.
I would highly recommend this gun for concealed carry or back up (sub compact) or for on-duty (standard legnth) or for anyone who wants a good reliable gun without spending a ton of money.

One of the best handguns I have ever fired and still own. The weapon is made to comfortably fit a large hand and fires round after round flawlessly and on point. The only beef I had with the weapon is I purchased the first models released by Springfield (2004) and the finish on it did not last long. After being handled day after day and useing it often the blueing seemed to be of fragile nature. However I just had it coated with "Dura Coat" and the weapon looks brand new. One of my most favorite weapons and will not part with it any time soon.

I retired from the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department, N.M. after 20yrs. and I am now with the Greenville Police Department, Al. where I have been for 17yrs. During that time I have carried all kinds of weapons. I have receantly pursched a XD40. I was very surprised when I fired it for the first time. The way the weapon handled was great. It is very durable and felt great in my hand. The recoil was the same as the 9mm Glock. Another thing that I liked is you know when the weapon has one chambered because there is a rocker bar
on top of the slide that will rock up when chambered. When the weapon is cocked, a pin at
the back will be out. ITS GREAT.....GM- Flag as inappropriate

First of all, I haven't seen this gun for sale new anywhere for the above price. The cheapest I have seen is $680!! Second, it is simply a Glock that is advertised as a Springfield. The gun is really kind of ugly and very square and blocky. The grip is large and blocky as well, uncomfortable with the hard diamond checkered grip, and you will need to buy hogue or pachmyar to change that. Not good for small hands. Personally, I do not like the fact that you have to pull the trigger and release the pin to take-down the gun for cleaning. Again...Glock-ish. Obviously it would be operator error, but the potential for a misfire is there. The accuracy wasn't bad, but not great either. I haven't had one jam, but a lot of others have. This gun is definitely overpriced for what you get. You want a deal on a gun, get an M&P!!!

As a former LE tactical squad member I have used Sig, H&K , Glock as well as others. I have much respect for the Sig Sauer and H&K products -their engineering is excellent however in some types of climates ie salty air, extreme mud/sand they can suffer,..I have owned 2 springfield xd's and found them to be better all around after stringent testing to all others. The XD is more robust internally, extremely accurate and reliable.

My Glock 22, for me, is the "perfect weapon" when it comes to handguns. However, my friend purchased an XD .40 not too long ago and I have fired hundreds of rounds through it. Ergonamically, the fit is great. My only complaint is the balance. It could be better. I love the fact that Springfield "borrowed" Glock and Sig design for this gun, but they could have added the Glock balance too. Otherwise, a fantastic gun.

I own the XD-40 and I'll tell you what, Glock lovers. This gun will give the Glock a run for its money. It helps people learn how to hold the pistol with its comfortable handle. Its smooth shooting with great accuracy. I love the XD-40 and would be a great gun for first time shooters. Glock did pave the way for the polymer frame pistols so its time to upgrade to XD lol.

This is one of my off duty guns. I find its a lot smoother than the Glock 22 I'm issued, though its heavier.

I've owned my 4" XD-40 for about 2 years now. I've got about 2000 rnds through it and have experienced very few malfunctions. I would choose an XD over a Glock and day of the week. It is an extremely accurate gun. One nice feature is the stainless mags. This is a great improvement over the Glock's polymer coated mags. Over all, the XD is a great gun. Even my fiance loves to shoot it.

I had carried a Glock 22 for several years. I was impressed with its durability and effectiveness. The Springfield is even more impressive. I love the weight of the weapon, as well as the ability to get back on target with little or no effort. Kudos to the manufacturer. Very impressive.

This firearm is definately top notch. It was my first firearm and I am so glad I got it. It fires extremely well. It has an ergonomic grip that fits comfortably in my hand. Even as a .40 it has less recoil then other .40's I have shot. I love the firing pin indicator and loaded chamber indicator because it gives you the ability to know if you are locked and loaded just by touching it with or without looking at the gun. Definately worth investing in one of these torture tested, hard working, reliable, proven firearms.

Great gun, but if you want something that's almost the same but that'll work every time, go with Glock.

I own/carry the 40SW with 4in barrel. I absolutely love this firearm! I have put well over 3000 rounds through it with only ONE jam!!! It just so happened to jam when after firing the first round off in a defense situation. I truly beleive that the only reason it jammed was because i had tofire it upside down at point blank range. The one shot is all I needed though because the 40 caliber round is such an efficient round that does the job! I am a lefty so the ambi mag release is a wonderful feature! The xd 40 is also extremely easy to breakdown and clean out.
