This is a nice reasonable radio for a small department. We use this in EMS and the tones work each time and it covers all our area. I would not use this for a large coverage area.

Ours are terrible a lot of deadspots with in our 5 square mile area. Doesn't transmit that far outside of the city either. When it's real windy, forget it, you're better off screaming at the top of your lungs and hope the wind takes it where you want it to go. Not even good for hitting anything.

I think these are alright for our small county and use in our jail, but I certainly hope that there is something better out there for us when we get our new jail complete.

we have used this radio for years and its a durable radio. it works great when u dont have someone standing next to you with the same radio when you are trying to transmit

Love this radio. Transmits and receives well with little to no interference, and it light weight.

I have the TK3170. This radio transmits and receives real well.

I'm from a rural fire department and all the officers and most of the members have these Kenwoods. This radio works alot better than what most of the county had at one time, then they all started switching to Kenwoods. I have a TK-272G from the squad that I'm on that works very good even with the stubby antenna. BUT the best radio that I've ever had is the Motorola MT-1000. Still have it as my backup radio and it works where these others won't!

This radio doesn't do us any good. We can stand outside our office and can't talk to the dispatchers inside. Great piece of equipment. Not very reliable.

This radio is ok. Not the best, but it works. It's kind of heavy and the traffic is kind of gurgled. I have to clean the connections on my microphone about once a month.

Heavy, works just as good as any other. Battery sucks compared to Motorolla
