These things actually work like they're supposed to! I bought a pair for about $12. They're even comfortable!

I use these every day on patrol in Iraq. They allow normal conversations, while blocking out dangerously loud sounds. I know they have saved me from hearing damage.

I have these and love them. They work great as long as it is understood what they are for. They are not a substitute for full hearing protection. They offer enough protection for occasional impulse noise, while being simple and discrete. They were designed for duty use where the impulse of occasional discharges would otherwise impair hearing (temporarily or permanently). They are barely good enough for outdoor handgun use, but I recommend against them for any other range use. Even outdoors, the percussion of large bore handguns after several hours has left me with a headache wearing these.
Similar to the idea of only having a handgun when you expect a gun fight or only wearing safety glasses if you anticipate having something explode in your face, wearing these for general range use or where you anticipate long drawn out firing, would be ill advised.

I used the earpiece on duty and i have to say that I did not like it. I had to cut off the inner ear fitting so that it was comfortable to wear the entire shift. Right fit for some but not for me.
