Good cell phone. I like that I can use it on the motorcycle in any weather.

I'm on my second one... the outside screen stopped working... I called Nextel and they told me they had a defect in the outside screens. They replaced it and the new phone works ok... But Nextel's phone signal and customer service SUCKS since Sprint took them over.

I have a motorola also, from Verizon. The Cellphone is great for text messaging WX Alerts and deployment orders.

We've been using Nextel for at least 8 years now (...maybe a bit longer) and we've gone through a LOT of phones over the years. Being out on the water, along the shoreline, and up into forests & conservation areas, we tend to be a bit harder on phones than most. We usually try to stick with the "Military Grade" phones. We've still got an old i700 Plus that still works - A GREAT phone; but the darned thing was nick named "The Brick" because of its' size & weight. In fact, our office cell is the old i1000, which kind of looks like a Star Trek communicator, which was one of our original phones (...made in the USA, even!) and that still works fine. All of that being said, the i580 is the BEST Nextel phone I've ever had. This thing has been dropped a few times, once from a 2nd story and another time into the water, and it works as good as the day I took it out of the box. It's rugged, fairly small & lightweight, decent features, good reception (...for Nextel - If you want reception *everywhere* in North America, go with Verizon!) and it just plain works day in and day out. Having a basic digital camera & removable memory card is a plus, too. I went with the larger, upgraded battery for better life between charging. Highly recommended for this type of phone.

I love this phone!!! I pulled over in the middle of nowhere one night because I saw a beautiful German Shepherd running loose. After rounding him up and making a few calls, I headed out with the dog in my back seat. About a mile and a half down the road, and at about 65 mph, I saw something fly off the hood of my car. It was my phone. Luckily it flipped open and I was able the spot the lit screen when I went back for it. Other than a few scuffs and scratches on the rubberized exterior, it survived unscathed. Awesome phone!!! Unfortunately Sprint's billing service sucks and kept charging me double and triple my set "simply everything" plan. After making good on it a few times, they would no longer fix the billing problem and I am now switching to Verizon. It sucks though, because I love this phone.

This phone looks and performs like I just pulled it out of the box...after several years of some pretty harsh abuse!
