Description:

Cougar 8000 series pistols are recoil operated, locked breech semi-automatic pistols. These pistols use relatively rare rotating barrel locking system, in which the barrel rotates on recoil to unlock itself from the slide. The rotating motion of the barrel is controlled by the stud on its bottom, which follows the cam track in the steel frame insert. To decrease peak recoil and stress to the frame, the insert is mounted on the recoil spring and is buffered. The frame is made from lightweight aluminum alloy. The basic version of the Cougar pistol is the F model, with double action trigger with exposed hammer, and ambidextrous safety/decocker levers, located on the slide. Alternative is D version, which is double action only, and thus have spurless hammer and no safety/decocker levers. Cougar pistols use double-stack magazines in 9 mm, .357 SIG and .40 caliber models, and single stack magazines in .45 caliber models.

If you're a fan of the Beretta M9 or the 92FS, this is the same weapon, only a bit more smaller with most the same features.

I pesonally like my Cougar very much and don't think I'll be parting with it anytime soon. Practice and familiarity do wonders for accuracy and as for reliability, I have never had any problems. I pull the trigger - it goes bang.

Nice, powerful weapon. Its compact size make it ideal for undercover assignments. I carry the .45 cal which only comes in single stack magazines. Only carries 8 + 1 which is a drawback if you're looking for a high capacity weapon.

clunky, low capacity. Extra mags are retarded expensive.

Detectives at local S/O were issued this piece and the S/O as a whole recently transitioned from 96FS's, 8040F's, and Mini 8040F's to the PX4F all in .40 S&W. Some like it... Some didn't

One of the few medium sized handguns I shoot well... I'm not sworn (yet) and just shot my friends.

Some guys like it... Some didn't.
